Slightly tongue in cheek, however, Spanish strikers in the PL just don't cut it, imo a rather expensive potential banana skin is on the cards if we take yet another "chance" on a Spanish striker.Originally posted by Fierce View PostYou'd take Freddie Kanoute over Villa?!
Much prefer someone who has had to work hard at proving himself in another country such as Eto'o, or Henry (which I am now thinking is a very, very expensive option for only a max of 4 years, prob close to £30M!!, and with zero return after the end of that contract)
We have to think long-term, not short-term fixes like the chavs on shevvers.

Villa has repeated on multiple occasions that he doesn't want to play in England
Torres is hugely over-rated and scores less than our current strikers
Eto'o is a quality player but there are questions over temprament
So for me, it would absolutely have to be Henry, 30 or not he's one of the best strikers I've ever seen.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Hmmm, maybe he has (or his agent told him to in order to aid any further negotiations with anyone else), but the fact still remains that he basically once said something like "**** weather, **** country" when asked about the UK. Which, frankly, is totally fair enough; if I were Spanish I doubt I'd want to play here either, but if that's his natural attitude I'd very much worry about him on a cold November night away at Fratton Park (or anywhere else)......I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Eto'o only got upset when senior players and management said to the press that he was being lazy. No question about his temprament before then, as far as I'm aware anyway.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostVilla has repeated on multiple occasions that he doesn't want to play in England

I always said the same when Villa threads came up, but I also said that football can change overnight, and he has certainly changed his tune as off late.
Torres is simply sublime, but opinions on players ability vary so I wont argue the toss over that, unless someone wants to.
Questions remain over Henry but a rigourous medical would settle any concerns I have. Off course £15m would go down the pan pretty quick, but we've lost far more on players who haven't settled or haven't been good enough. I would gladly splurge £15m for a GENUINE crack at the title.Forwards.......

doubt it the interview was in nuts magazine (i think) and he said that before he could never imagine playing in england but now he can and that he didn't have a favourite team here but due to the fact we have a spanish manager and player and that he is goof friends with pepe we would be his preferance.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostHmmm, maybe he has (or his agent told him to in order to aid any further negotiations with anyone else), but the fact still remains that he basically once said something like "**** weather, **** country" when asked about the UK. I have seen him play several times and i think he is a real Rafa type player and will always make runs and close defenders down no matter of the weather or location.
I don't think we ill get him due to his massive fee of around 35mil, although he is the one striker i would pick above the others.

In fairness he is more of a Rooney type player and is unlikely to be a prolific goalscorer.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostHe averages something like a goal every 2.4 appearances

That's not as bad as I thought it was.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostTorres averages something like a goal every 2.4 appearances
To be fair, all of them are pretty damn good footballers, I'd just pick the guy who's been top scorer in England for 5 seasons over the others.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

I could say that Torres is a marked man in a team that has been mediocre for years, yet has to play ike a big club due to fans expectations. The pressure at Atletico is HUGE, and the man who carries all their burden is Fernando Torres. The fact that he is a striker and is captain at his age says all you need to know of his character.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostSomeone hand me Torres' goal scoring record please.....
I believe he has stagnated at Atletico and that the writing has been on the wall for awhile that he should leave. Look at the torment Gerrard went through when he had to carry the team on his own, and he was older than Torres.
Torres has been around for ages it seems, and yet is still only just turned 23. He is already a top striker and lives for the big stage, the world cup proved that. A chance to play in the CL would really bring his game on to another level. He is a player who has the potential to be the worlds best striker like Henry has been.
He is quick, can shoot with either foot, can head the ball, has great control and dribbling ability, has explosive acceleration and is hero worshipped off the field after showing true dedication to Atletico and for being a nice guy who is a dedicated to his career.
He is also strong on the ball. You could watch him play if you like or I could post a Youtube video (
) if you like.
Think that just about does it!Forwards.......

I would class him as a natural finisher. Has had to play deep at Atletico due to them being ****e in recent seasons, but watch him when he played at youth level and for Spain and he is capable of playing as the out and out striker.Originally posted by The_Milkman View PostIn fairness he is more of a Rooney type player and is unlikely to be a prolific goalscorer.Forwards.......
