    Decent performances today...

Kuyt was great. With better finishing he could have had 4. Gonzales looks like he could have turned a corner (I hope), and Pennant was good (again).

Kuyt played very well, he'll surely start up front on Wednesday night. The question is, with who ? Crouch ? Bellamy ? Gerrard ?

    I thought Gonzalez was awful.

    He's quick......and that's it.

Gonzalez's end product wasn't good but at least he had the 'courage' to get involved. He was much more involved today than he usually is. It's a start.

I thought Gonzo was much better again (but as Shaggy says needs to concentrate on his final ball and finishing). But he should be given a run from now to the end of the season on the LW (CL excepted) to imrpove his confidence.

I'm hopeful that he has reached the point Pennant did after the turn of the year. Suddenly realised what is necissary to play at the highest level and started to get a bit of confidence. Rafa certainly seems to be picking him again after a spell where he seemed to have lost confidence in him.

will have to watch MOTD to see hwo we did. Am pleased Kuyt got his goals, he has looked a bit off in front of goal of late.

Really hard to judge Gonzalez at the moment though. He's been in & out the side, injured, new team, new country and all that bollox.

I wouldn't condemn him to the sin bin just yet.

I thought he showed a few potential glimpses of what was close to being called 'quality'?

Kuyt: 12 league goals in 26 starts isn't bad.

But last year he was in La Liga which goes to show the gulf in quality needed to make it as a player in the prem.

I'd agree with most of that. Gonzalez looks like he could come good yet I've always thought this season was about adjusting for him. A couple of dodgy moments today but overall his touch was good and he looked to get at defenders, his crossing was poor and he should've scored.
Kuyt played well from the start looked like he has renewed confidence.
Pennant has been consitently good since the New year hope he starts against the Chavs.
Overall the performance was lack lustre but we created enough to have won 5 or 6.

Not bad at all, all things considered. Good, in fact.

I think he can be a much better player if just gets himself in the bloody box a bit more often. He doesn't bring enough to the table in the 2nd striker's role - his touch isn't anywhere near good enough and I thought his link-up play at times today was very sloppy again.

Two well-taken goals though, the 2nd one in particular and he blossomed as the game wore on.

I don't think he'll ever be really prolific for us but if he can get 15 league goals per season I'll be very happy.

For me Gonzalez showed pace and effort but nothing more today. That said I think in order for him to adapt he needs to really get the bit between his teeth, and that's what he's doing. Hopefully he will progress, I can see him getting starts in many of the remaining league games now which will be a good opportunity for him.

The only thing that I don't like about him (as you say) is his 1st touch.

Kuyt seemed to play further up the pitch for large parts of the game today, and so was in position to score more often.
If he played as the furthest most forward striker every game I reckon he would get at least 20 goals a season. He has been restricted by Rafa's instructions.

good game today from Pennant, Reina (when needed) Agger when he came on , and of course Dirk
