I expect Rafa to go all out to land Alves this Summer. Simao may be a back-up plan, but Alves seems to be the one, and I agree that Parrys comments are just a smokescreen.

I think he is decent enough, in terms of whether he would be suitable to the EPL? well that question should also be aimed at Alves, Queresma and Nani as, unless they have a miraculous adaptation to the league, will take a season to bed in. Who know's, maybe in that time Pennant may have come good.

Should we sign someone for alot of money and then settle with letting them been **** for a year cause they need time to bed in??

Surely we would want them to hit the ground running, at the end of the day they are professionals

Very good player, at the peak of his career, good with both feet(unlike Alves) and captains Benfica which shows leadership.
The price quoted is not that bad considering Alves might go for more than 25£ m :whatever:
Have to agree though that this might be a smokescreen but at the same time RAFA does have the knack of going back to previous target players he could not secure earlier. Kuyt is one example. He wanted him last season but it did not happen, then hs signed him this season.
Senor Benitez keeps taps on previous targets then goes for them again if they continue to improve. I think Simao falls into that category.
Our main target this summer has to be a striker, so we should spend a good hefty amount on that NOT on a winger.

Simao is a more than useful player, and from what I've seen is a better bet than alves. However, our main priority in midfield should be the left side. On the right we've got Pennant & Garcia whilst SG is bound to play his fair share as well. On the left we've got nobody IMO. Kewell isn't good enough even when fit, Gonzo has it all to prove, whilst JAR & Aurelio are basically wing backs.

On another point, all this smokescreen stuff is a load of nonsense. Are people really saying we are after Alves but lets pretend we want Simao, so other clubs don't try to buy alves. If Alves wants to leave Sevilla, they would inform all & sundry themselves, as would his agent, to get the best price they can. There's no way nowadays you can get a top player without it being common knowledge amongst the big clubs. all this smokescreeen stuff is pure fantasy.

Simao, Quaresma & Ribery can play on both flanks

I was thinking the same about the smokescreen thing. Wasn't the concept itself invented by Koptalk?
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Ironically enough as a smokescreen to put people off the scent of their bull****.

                            Nonsense.

This ageism theme on here is getting tiring. He's 27 FFS. When Robert Pires signed for Arsenal he was 27. ****e signing wasn't he?

Go onto Wikipedia and look at Simao's goalscoring record for Benfica compared to those listed above.

Quaresma is flash like Ronaldo, only not quite as good. Ribery is obscenely overrated. He creates and scores little and has a questionable character. And we cannot afford Alves most likely.

See how easy it is to rubbish any player/potential signing?

Lets just let Rafa get on with it. Meanwhile the rest of us can play Football Manager and be satisfied with that. We do not know better.

I'd be more than happy if we signed Simao. He's a good player IMHO and would work well for us on either wing.

These comments from Rick Parry are a bit strange though. Unless he's trying to unsettle the player...
