Houllier wanted to sign them not Parry.

If Parry didn't back Houllier and then he failed we'd be bagging Rick for not backing him enough.

Poor Rick can't win either way.

It really depends on who does the actual financial dealing though surely. We paid over the odds for Diao for sure. The contracts offered to players coming from France was also frankly ludicrous. Whoever made those descisions were clearly doing their job poorly.

This summer the team of Parry and Rafa seem to have done a much better job. It could simply be that the manager and Chief Exec now have a better understanding and that Rafa is more willing to wait to get deals done at a better price.

The thing is that Parry gets some needless criticism but he has made some errors and there are things we need to improve on in commercial terms at the club. This summer however he has done a great job in the transfer market in my opinion and deserves some praise, this doesn't however absolve him from blame for earlier mistakes.

            Agree with this post 100%.

We overpaid for those players both in terms of transfer fees and personal terms, as evidenced by the difficulty we have had in moving them on.

Why is it no one wanted to buy those players on permanent deals, preferring loan deals instead? Didn't want to pay 100% of their wages I bet.

Parry has done an excellent job this summer but he is not beyond criticism.

Even the arguable 'lamp shade' of the season (Pennant instead of Alves) isn't much of a compromise, if at all

Mate, that just goes in Parry's favour. They were players Ged wanted and Parry delivered,What else do you want from him?
Also,in the 2002 world,we were all looking at Diof and diao saying what bargains we were getting the way they played .
