I didn't mean that Rafa had the chance to sign him it was when Houllier was our manager that we agreed a deal with Sporting but instead of getting the players name on a contract we waited a week and the Scum signed him instead.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I am over the ****ing moon that we dont have Ronaldo. No room for divers and posers. Ronaldo is currently effective and full of confidence however he is nowhere near the best player in the world. he's just a flash git who has had a good season. he's good at running at defences and able to grab goals. However, he lacks vision. All the greatest players the world has seen have been so because they had amazing vision. Kaka and Messi have this attribute but time will tell whether or not they will be remembered as great players. Ronaldo will not be remembered as a great player.

i am also glad we don't have a top 5 player in the world in our squad who would have cost about 4 million and now been worth about 40 million

I stand by my statement.I admit Ronaldo is in great form.
I understand that he would improve our current team and that it is more of a personal thing that i wouldnt want him. he is exactly the type of player i detest. his attitude and personality.
i definitly stand by my point about him not being a great player.
He is in a rich vein of form but i firmly believe he will not be remembered as a great player. Man united's last truely great player who deserves to be remembered is Cantona. Ronaldo will not be remembered in such a way in my opinion.

It's possible. But then it's also possible that had we started the season full of confidence we could have won the league anyway. And any player better than one in our squad would have improved our chances, without a doubt.

Yes, but what has that to do with the price of fish? You said you can add Ronaldo to the list - the list had nothing to do with Houllier. The article had nothing to do with Houllier either. How the **** does Houllier's failure to land Christiano Ronaldo have anything to do with the above article????

Maybe cos we had the same people sorting the deals under GH as we do now?

Then again the **** up could have been down to lack of cash. Someon pointed out how stupid it was to turn down Robben and Cech and sign Diao and Cheyrou instead. Easy to say now, but if Rafa signed 2 youngsters with potential over 2 first teamers peolpe on here would be up in arms.

I heard we failed to land Ronaldo because we decided that he didn't warrant spending £8m on, mainly because it would have left us with very little cash. We decided to wait, Man Utd saw there chance and stepped in. The fee was then bumped up to £12m, we then had no chance and Man Utd signed him.

I agree with all of that, but you are wrong that he won't be remembered as a great player. The manc-loving provisional wing of the national press will make sure that he is. Other similar great players since cantona include Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney - with varying degrees of deservedness (is that a word?)

One more good season and he'll probably get an honorary knighthood.

I can't help feeling that people are letting an anti-manc bias cloud their judgement here. The players listed above are all exceptional with the exception of Gary Neville. Who has been in the top 3 right backs in the country for a decade even if that is mostly due to a lack of competition. I'm accepting that Rio needs a more thoughtful partner with him to bring out his best but he is one of the only ball playing centrebacks to have emerged in the PL.

It is hard to say that Rooney or Ronaldo have done enough to prove they are great players as they are so young, but any sensible analysis will reveal that they are incredibly talented.

While I would share the aesthetic concerns about Ronaldos diving I think he has more than made up for it with the quality fo his play this year.

I hate the fact we don't have players who perform to that creative level in our team. I'm just not too bitter to admire it in other teams.
