I'm accepting that Rio needs a more thoughtful partner with him to bring out his best but he is one of the only ball playing centrebacks to have emerged in the PL.

It is hard to say that Rooney or Ronaldo have done enough to prove they are great players as they are so young, but any sensible analysis will reveal that they are incredibly talented.

While I would share the aesthetic concerns about Ronaldos diving I think he has more than made up for it with the quality fo his play this year.

I hate the fact we don't have players who perform to that creative level in our team. I'm just not too bitter to admire it in other teams.
Agreed - they....have...had....some....good...players!! wow..there it is, i said it...still, theres no denying that ronaldo has had a great season, hes a c*nt of the highest order but, he can play ball.
Id pay to break his ****ing legs though

I'm not bitter at all. I think Keane and Scholes were exceptional and certainly deserve the great player tag. I would class Rooney and Ronaldo as potentially great players, who seem exceptional but will have to prove it on a regular basis for the rest of their careers to be truly considered great.

As for the others, I would class Neville as a decent player and a great servant for the club, (their Carragher), but not a truly great player. Giggs is an enigma - great at times, but too injury prone, and his attitude to international friendlies for Wales stank. As for Ferdinand, I don't rate him at all and never have. He goes to sleep too often, and doesn't like anyone who is either physical with him or sticks tight and niggles him. Owen and Duncan Ferguson used to rip him to shreds whenever they played against him because of those weaknesses.

My only point is that all of those players are consistently labelled great by the press who rush to bestow that label on players at top clubs these days, and so Ronaldo will inevitably be too, regardless of the heights he does or doesn't achieve in the rest of his career.

Ronaldo is currently effective and full of confidence however he is nowhere near the best player in the world. he's just a flash git who has had a good season. he's good at running at defences and able to grab goals. However, he lacks vision. All the greatest players the world has seen have been so because they had amazing vision. Kaka and Messi have this attribute but time will tell whether or not they will be remembered as great players. Ronaldo will not be remembered as a great player.
I think il put it in my signature
              Rant over

i've said the same thing before, he's in great form, but will he sustain it? not in my opinion. he seems to be back to this old ways of dribbling with his head down, forcing things, and taking ill advised shots. long may it continue. best player in the world? :whatever:

he's gash at free kicks as well, i love how commentators cream themselves over the the way he strikes the ball. it's similar to the way pirlo hits them, but pirlo has much more control.

you think he makes that big a difference do you? a winger would win us the league? we don't have the strikers to finish the chances. the hype around ronaldo has gotten out of control

AF should read Thommo's autobiography and get a little perspective regarding Ronaldo

Its all well and good sitting in AF's ivory tower saying we should have signed x,y & z completely ignoring things like how much the player was demanding in wages, signing on fees etc...

I only said that we had agreed a deal with Sporting and we had done that United had no intention to sign him.

They played against Sporting in a friendly just a few days after we had agreed a deal with Sporting for Ronaldo. He dominated that game and they decided to sign him. Only the fact that United would play against Sporting should mean that Parry should have worked overtime to sort out the deal before the game.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Thats incorrect according to Thommo's book

IF what Thommo says is correct we were offerred the player for £4 million but we couldnt agree personal terms because the player wanted 4 or 5 times more than we were paying to LeTallec and Pongolle (who were the same age and considered similar prospects) we also had to pay the agent £1 million

No compromise was found with Ronaldo and his agent refusing to budge, then out of the blue he signed for United for £12.5 million

It was out of the blue because United had turned down the chance to match our bid, they had first option on all the Sporting players, but they decided to sign him after the friendly against Sporting.

Why do you treat these as factual ? It's as if you've been privy to information such as these FFS. It's boring now mate so move on.

I swear if I see you raving about Owen on these forums once again, I'll be sending Dunk banging at your door.
