    News from the front line

In the london evening standard there is an article "Was Gerrard right to snub Chelsea?"

The idiot writing the article ends with, "will it take a sixth European Cup triumph in Athens next month to keep him from the clutches of Roman Abramovich?"

They then go on to ask 4 ex Liverpool and 4 ex Chav players what they think.

Rushie, Houghton and Gary Mac say of course he was right to snub the Chavs, while Dean Saunders feels it's hard to tell, but Liverpool is in his heart.

Duberry, Peacock and Hazard are all sure he was right to stay at Liverpool, Micky Hazard even going on to state, "They are a massive club going for a sixth European Cup, while Chelsea haven't won it once."

The only one who is sure Gerrard made a mistake is Scott Minto, who played for Chelsea during the glory years 1994-97. The great man says players are judged on winning Premierships, adding, "I would have left Liverpool for Chelsea."

If any of you care to judge Scott Minto, please judge him on the number of league titles he won in his career, it's the least he would expect.
"The definition of insanity is not running into the same wall again and again; it's expecting a different result every time you do it."

Thats probably why Minto would like to join the Chavs - they have one the league for the last 2 years, and we haven't. Had you asked him the queston when he was playing, he would probably have wanted to go to the arse or scum instead.

That list of pundits is so Z list that even Sky Sports News would hang their heads in shame at that.
    Oh I don't know.

The Evening Standard never really have been particularly quick on the uptake but even by their standards (no pun intended) dragging up an issue that was done to ****ery 3 years ago, and then repeated the following year, is something of an achievement.

I look forward to their next journalistic triumph when they question whether or not Arsenal would have won the FA Cup in 2001 if they had scored more goals than us.

            Tosspots.
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

Personally speaking winning one league title with LFC would mean than 10 with Chelsea. I'm sure Gerrard feels the same. I've no doubt in my mind that had LFCs future not looked bright he would have left, 99% of players want to be at big successfull clubs. Luckily for us, LFC fall into that category.

Had LFC not pressed forward he would have left, but that would be no shame on him. I can only think of the likes of Steve Bull and Mat Le Tissier who could have had better but stayed put.

However LFC have and so there will never be an issue over him leaving again. Gerrard was right to stay. If we win in Athens he will have lifted 2 European Cups as captain of his hometown club since turning down the chavs first time round, all within 3 years. If there are more than 5 players to have done that I'd be very suprised.

Add to that the promise of bigger and better things to come at Anfield, then you could say that even neutrals will realise it was more than local pride that was the reasoning behind him staying. Gerrard is a winner, and he realised he could achieve his dreams at Anfield.

                  And he was right.
                  Forwards.......
