Dudek, Kromkamp, Agger, Paletta, Warnock, Garcia, Sissoko, Zenden,Gonzalez, Fowler, Crouch

Compared to the team which started vs Burnley 2 years ago

Jerzy Dudek, Djimi Traore, Sami Hyypia, Zak Whitbread, David Raven, Stephen Warnock, Igor Biscan, John Welsh, Antonio Nunez, Darren Potter, Florent Sinama Pongolle

I'd fancy our current 'worst team' against anyone outside the top 6.

Yes, perhaps I should rephrase it as 'realistically field'

Of course, early rounds of Carling Cup we might play Anderson, Hobbs etc.

How could you include Momo in the worst 11???

Surely he could be replaced by Diao and Luis by Zenden...you have also left Peltier and Hobbs out??

See my post above mate. Yes, we could conceivably play reserve players (Carling Cup), but that's our worst 'first team'.

Sissoko's obviously controversial, but if I'd put Alonso or Gerrard people would have just laughed.

I think youre missing the point he is trying to make. and he did say arguably.
The point he is making is our squad is light years better than it was.

I accept the poiunt that's trying to be made... but I don't think comparing a squad of first team rotation players to a team half populated by reservists (with very few first team apperances) is the best way to make it.

The likes of Raven, Whitbread, Potter & Welsh were never first team squad players.... their comparitive players this season would be Hobbs, Anderson, Peltier, Roque, etc

Besides all that... I fail to see how Pongolle & Mellor could be considered better better than Fowler & Crouch and not make it in to our current worst 11.

I also think we now have 20+ players who are comfortable on the ball, a first for a very long time!!

The thing is though we had no other option than to turn to players like Raven, Potter etc. before if we wished to rest first team players in certain positions. Realistically if we wanted to rest both Carra and Hyypia the question was - who do we play with Traore. If we rested people in midfield we had to play Potter or Welsh.

It is also telling that players like Welsh and Whitbread were 21-23 and still thought of as youth - when really we should have known if they were good enough for a place on the bench. Now the youth players in the reserves are genuinely very young, which is a big plus.
