Its not like professional footballers leave school at 16 like the rest of us, and suddenly decide to be a footballer either. There is a ****load of dedication and hard work. So yeah, whilst the rewards totally outweigh the work put in, I dont think its a slur on Stevie to say things like that personally

While some kids were at home playing nintendo or whatever, kids like Gerrard were going straight from school to training and then back to school again, sacrificing their usual childhood to get what? No guarenteed job unless they make it. Fair play to the dedication and balls it takes to try to be a top flight footballer when you are a kid.
