...it's almost 30 years since we first won the European Cup in Rome on May 25th 1977?

I was only 13 at the time (cough) but I remember the TV pictures as if they were just a few years ago. Terry Mac's opening goal, Allan Simonson's equaliser for Borussia Monchengladbach, Tommy Smith's header for the second, Kevin Keegan (in his last game) taking on Bertie Vogts to win the penalty and Phil Neal's coolly slotting it away for our 3rd goal.
Afterwards, along with thousands of other Reds across the world, I watched Crazy Horse lift the trophy at the Stadio Olimpico and the amazing scenes that followed Sir Bob Paisley's first European Cup triumph. I was lucky enough to be taken along to witness the open top bus tour of Liverpool and cheer on our returning heroes. Thankfully, I've witnessed many other similar scenes since then and been fortunate enough to attend most of our big finals along the way culminating in Istanbul exactly 28 years after that first sweet victory.
The reason I mention it is (apart from a little match this evening) I'm going with some colleagues to a "30th Anniversary of Liverpool FC's European Cup Win in 1977" luncheon tomorrow at Chester Racecourse. The special guests are Ian Callaghan MBE, Jimmy Case, Joey Jones and Tommy Smith MBE.
Would you believe I was invited by two different investment companies to the same event and accepted the offer from Norwich Union (that's where all your pension charges go folks
) as they had four seats they couldn't get rid of!
Apart from the free lunch (if there is such a thing) there's a free bar too so by the time we hit the pubs of Chester at around 4pm I should be as pissed as a Slammer.
So, what are your memories of Rome 1977? Were you there? Were you also at St Georges Hall for the memorable homecoming? Or, like Marky, did you just hear about it from your Grandpa?
