If we are buying a back up centre half then we shouldnt be spending 15mil when about 5mil would suffice and get someone who was half decent and wouldbe happy as an understudy.

We do already have 4 capable CD's tho - Carra, Agger, Hyypia, Arbeloa - with the likes of Hobbs Paletta et al looking to break in soon, I don't think we're that desperate to fill the position.

            No one.

Rafa could use a back three, Richards, Carra and Agger with two wing backs.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

he would not be a back up long term though. If he is a player that we think would be top class for us in 2-3 years then we have to buy now because if we don't somebody else will (Chelsea in this instance) and in 2-3 years will be unbuyable for us. In the meantime he would provide great cover and get more than his fair share of games.

tut tut tut. i can't believe some of the negativity being exhibited on this site. these perfectly reasonable comments are having a detrimental effect on the underpaid, undermotivated paupers that make up our team and to have the appaling temerity to question the tactics of the dear leader - especially leading up to tuesday's armageddon - is the psychological equivalent of taking a chainsaw to every one of the squads lower half and reattaching these severed limbs to the buttocks of the chelsea squad thereby making them a multilimbed automaton that will crush our legless waifs without mercy. thanks to us. now cop on.

Isn't richards a Right Back with a future as a defensive midfielder.

I don't think he's centre back material long term.

                  ...

His best position is centre back and is where he played in the citeh youth team. In the long term Pearce has said he see's Micah as a centre back.

An unproven player to not be a first team regular.

If he was white, Spanish and 24 years old he would be worth about 3m.

If this is true it's a very positive sign I think. Richards was awesome in the Youth Cup Final second leg last year - totally outshone everyone else on the pitch. He stands out at Man City and has done fine in his international career so far. Whether he's worth £15m is debatable but Chelsea would pay that - if we do it's a sign of serious intent. He would immediately challenge Finnan for a place and would be a contender to replace Carragher in the long term.

Also, if we're prepared to pay £15m (a club record after all) for a position which is not an absolute priority it shows long term planning and impressive spending power. How much then would we pay for a good striker?
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

When did the transfer market start putting a premium on black players?
