        I'd welcome us signing Simao.

If the price is right, and I wouldn't want to pay more than £10m, then he'd be a great addition to our squad.

He scores goals from midfield, can play on both wings, can take players on, can score from freekicks, and he's a leader having been captain for a number of years with plenty of experience on the European stage.

So, if the price is right then I'd sign him up!

I'm really not sure why people are fixating on the price. If it doesn't affect our ability to go out and get two other top targets does it matter?

can he consistantly beat his man? Can he deliver a final ball? Is he capable of returning 10 goals a season?

Only seen him play in the champions league and i didn't think he was all that!
If he's to play on the left its the end for kewell or speedy.

If he's to play on the right i can't see us buying alves as well.

I don't think Simao is better than a fit Kewell, Garcia or Pennant

He has scored some nice goals but he really doesn't do much more on the pitch. He doesn't get past his man that often.

I would compere him to Kewell. The same type of player, can play on both wings and as an attacking midfielder. Kewell is the better team player.

He goes missing in the big games and that is a worry. We need players who will deliver in the big games. We already have players who delivers against the teams we should beat week in week out.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Are you going to give an eloquent deconstruction of his points or just insult him? You can just ignore him if you want you know.

Well maybe AF missed Simao tearing the arse out of United the other year in the CL

Or alternatively royally fecking us up the arse at Anfield last season

For someone who doesnt do it in big games, hes got a lot going for him

My one concern about Simao is whether he is up to the physical nature of the Premiership but that is a concern that could equally be applied to Alves, Quaresma or any other number of players plying their trade in Iberia

One of our biggest problems this season has been a lack of threat from wide positions the more widemen we buy the better it gives us options and possibilities

People are too worried about money and Championship Manager style management

Rafa will have plenty of money and I'm sure the CM2007 fanatics will be appeased also

I watched the above mentioned games last season and he was better then than he has been this season.

I watch Benfica more or less every time they are on the TV and that's very often. Sportexpressen here in Sweden shows games every week from that league. He hasn't been any good this season for Benfica. He has scored a few goals but he has also been very lazy.

Benfica played better without Simao against Sporting last weekend IMO.

I'd take Simao over Pennant and certainly over Kewell (primarily because you cant rely on Kewell ever being fit)

Pennant has improved BUT he doesnt contribute enough goal threat Simao DOES

However the big question is whether Simao is a genuine No.1 target or whether Rafa is just lining up his alternatives as a fallback just in case he doesnt get his top targets. We have seen reports in the past the deals had been agreed with x,y & z only for Rafa to pursue other players and then fallback to his alternatives when he has failed to land his top target

So does it matter whether it's £20m quid, 15m euros, 10m euros or a million Turkish lire as long as the player is better than what we've already got?

As regards the price of a player, it may just be me, but I never like to see us being ripped off when buying players, whether it's for a few million or 20 million.

We rarely make a decent profit on our players when we sell them, so I hate seeing us paying 'over the odds' for new players. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I think. If they're better than what we've got then great, but I just don't like seeing other clubs rip us off. Ever since Chelsea 'raised the bar' on paying transfer fees every team raises the price of their 'star players', adn rightly so. But I hate it when we pay what I believe as 'over the odds' for a player.

If others don't like that, then so be it!

I see what you mean but that's just part and parcel of being a big club nowadays I'm afraid. As is always budgeting for a deficit in transfer dealings as only smaller clubs aim to balance the books by selling off their better players.

We aim to be sure we've had the best of any player before we see him leave so transfer dealings that we get a profit from should be few and far between.
It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

I think in the future we will see us making more profit from transfer fees, in the same way Arsenal have done in the past. We will be buying youngsters from all over europe they will be a hit and leave for a big club from their native country.
