Rafa: We dont need to give flags

Rafa Benitez believes Liverpool can reach the Champions League final in Athens even if Chelsea score a crucial away goal on Tuesday night.
The 1-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge last week means the Reds will have to net three if Chelsea get a goal at Anfield.

But Benitez insists he won't panic if this happens – because he knows from experience what his players can do when the chips are down.

"For me, it's better if we don't concede. But we know we can score more than one goal. If we need to score three, okay, we have experience against Olympiacos," the Spaniard told an Anfield press conference on Monday.

"I know we were not playing at our level last week. That's the key for the second leg. If we play to our level I'm sure we will win."

Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss believes the Anfield atmosphere will be a problem for Jose Mourinho's men - despite the experience they have from two years ago.

"Our supporters – they are the special ones," said Benitez. "We don't need to talk about our supporters, it's enough just to hear them.

"At Stamford Bridge, we won in the stands, that was clear. The other supporters were with their flags, but our supporters were with their hearts. We don't need to give flags. It's easy for us.

"Our fans cannot give red cards or award penalties, but they can score goals. I like this about our supporters because we know they will show they are the best in the world again tomorrow night.

"I am sure you will see that Anfield is very difficult for Chelsea. They can say they've experienced it before, they can say it's not a problem, but it will be a problem for them.

"We are playing against a very good team, but we have confidence, and playing with 12 men is easy!"

It seems to me we are relying on the crowd too much.

2 years ago, Juvenus and Chelsea did not know what had hit them. They were surprised.

This time around, they will know exactly what to expect. That counts a lot in my book.
    Oh I don't know.

Doesnt mean anything. We knew what to expect from Drogba - he still destroyed Agger.

It's the effect it has on the players that counts for me.

You can never wipe out the noise of the crowd on a European night.

          It CANNOT be underestimated.

I've been in training mate. I'm gonna fly off my seat and get on the end of a wayward Pennant cross and nod it into the top corner.

All this 'war of words' between Rafa and Maureen are doing my head in now. Either they do a press conference together and get their dicks out or they just save it for on the pitch tomorrow!

Has Rafa been taking lessons from someone down the road? He's really turning up the heat for this game.

Very unlike him to talk so much and real deep knife turning stuff.

I hope the team can be as combative on the pitch as Rafa is being off it.

We know the Anfield crowd will do their bit.

I think the club have been talking up the anfield factor a little too much. I feel a large dose of humble pie coming our way I'm afraid...

Perhaps. But their fans are still a ****ing joke.

I think this is being done because we need something else to give us the edge. At the moment Rafa knows we are up against it and is asking Mourinho to get involved in a load of tittle-tattle to deflect from the actual game. I think these comments plus his bollocking of the team in the first leg is a mission to put our players in "the zone". Just hope it works!

love it from Rafa. Obviously our lads will have to be on top of their games but the crowd can play a part, of that there is no doubt.

Chelski have got a dose of the jitters, Rafa's goading them when they're at a low point. Good strategy.
