As the rumble and hussle of the Liverpool faithful fill the stadium like red liquid filling up a cauldron, the troops prepare for battle in the dressing room. Serious faces itched with conviction and destiny fill the hallowed room. As the cauldron begins to bubble, famous songs spark up like fires of hope from all corners of the Stadium. Anticipation and knowing smiles are testament that something special will happen there that night. Over the sound of clattering football boot studs, Primus Rafa strides up and down past his men issuing instructions and delivering words of believe and most importantly galvanizing them with his superior battle plan. The huge flag of Liverpool FC is unleashed and flows over the red faithful, seen from all four corners of the stadium, reminding those foolish enough to come here on European night were they are.

The sweetest battle cry of all time begins with those cherished words, When you walk, Through the Storm, Hold your heads up High. The heat in the cauldron increases exponentially, the crowd sing with passion and honor. The Troops are forming in the tunnel, serious faces no smiles here tonight. As the Battle cry reaches fever pitch, Walk on through the Rain, Walk On through the Rain, the Troops begin to move out … The historic sign above there heads THIS IS ANFIELD reminding those in the shirt what is expected of them and more importantly those not lucky enough to wear the famous Red Jersey what they are going to get.

Out they come two teams to a wall of Red noise and passion… one the most successful football club the country has ever seen, the most famous team in the world, a club with tradition, a club with history, a club with pedigree, a club with believe, players fresh rested and hunger, the other some knackered team from London

Dudek's save from Shevchenko near the end is just beyond belief
and in the penalty shootout he is just frigging ace - he must be two yards off his line for some of those shots

I dont know how the players sleep the night before a game like this ..

He's an idiot, always was and always has been. F Sheva, F Dogbreath, F Ballack and F the lot of them. This is nowhere near the whining we'll hear AFTER the game when they are sent home with nothing.

Anyone read that post on the offical chelsea site talking about team news that was linked? Well its ****in rubbish and heres the worst part; they had this to say about pool's reversal of celtic in the semi-final 40 years ago and the semi two years ago.

"The decisive game came the following Tuesday in front of 55,000. Even then commentators eulogised beforehand about the so-called 'Anfield effect' - 'The roar of the Kop is said to be worth a goal start,' suggested The Times.
As it was, Celtic were unfazed until half an hour remained, when Tommy Smith fired in a long-range free-kick. Another goal followed within five minutes, though, and the Scots looked to have been undone.

Then with three minutes remaining Lennox suddenly appeared to have scored and put the Glaswegians through on the away goals rule. They still shake their heads north of the border at the referee's decision to disallow it for offside, and the ruling provoked a rain of bottles onto the pitch in protest.

So maybe the real 'Anfield effect' is on officials rather than players. We know all about dubious decisions at that venue of course, having witnessed referee Lubos Michel's award of a goal for Luis Garcia in 2005 when there had to be serious doubt (at the very least) that the ball had fully crossed the line before William Gallas cleared.

It has to be said that the atmosphere at Anfield in 2005 was incredible, an extraordinary sensation. One friend, an Anfield season ticket holder, complained the following morning that his ears rang as if he'd been to a Status Quo gig. Even allowing for his taste in music, it proved the din was unique to that stadium in recent years.

In fact, Chelsea fans played their part in that. When SkySports News screen the footage of the Kop singing Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before that Chelsea match, listen out for the loud Blues supporters' repeated chant of 'Bring on the champions!' throughout.

Still, the Reds' fans 'superiority' is a truism, and no facts can stand in the way of that story. Benítez even claimed at the weekend that the 'Kop effect' will make his players 'run faster'. Perhaps it cures the common cold too.

'We're custodians of the anthem,' says the rather pious fans' group Reclaim The Kop, 'and we have to maintain it and pass it on to the next generation, in pristine condition.' And yet (whisper it), just like at the Stamford Bridge they decry, they have had to establish a 'singing' area at the back of the Kop to improve the stadium atmosphere.

If we examine the 2005 game itself, Liverpool were awarded a goal after three minutes and defended remorselessly and brilliantly after that. Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Arjen Robben had reasonable chances to score over the normal but foundered on Jerzy Dudek and Jamie Carragher. Djibril Cisse was denied brilliantly by Petr Cech. And during the six minutes of stoppage time, Dudek flapped a cross to Eidur Gudjohnsen, who screwed his crucial shot across goal."

                            ****s.

i am brimming with excitement at tonights game....its going to be an epic showdown. I can feel it. I didnt sleep much last night in anticipation, i cant wait.

The crowd will be at their best, the players will be up for it and Stevie is going to play the way only he can.

We are going to be savage, any loose balls from Chelsea will result in a bone crunching tackle. They wont know whats hit them

Bellers will be the nasty little prick that only he can be, chasing everything down, and making Ferriera look like a statue as he glides past him.

and at the end of it all we will hear one of the loudest roars and best sung YNWA's we've heard, and Robben is going to cry....again

Not particularly buzzing as I know what's at stake and it will be really difficult no matter what. They key here is the players must never drop their heads, no matter what happens on the pitch. It will be a tensed day though and the tension leading to and during the match will be unbearable.
