Benitez sure of shoot-out success

Benitez gets his point across during Liverpool's win at Anfield
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez insists countless hours on the training ground were behind their penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea in the Champions League.
The Reds trailed 1-0 after the first leg of the semi-final but forced extra-time and scored every one of their spot-kicks to reach the final.
He said after the 4-1 win: "We had confidence because we had players who practice in every training session.
"Pepe Reina is a player who is always good with penalties."
Benitez also hailed the impact of the Anfield crowd: "Every player and every supporter deserves the win - the atmosphere was amazing."
Skipper Steven Gerrard was overjoyed after guiding his side to their second Champions League final in three years.
The manager's tactics, everything was spot on
Steven Gerrard
"The first time round was special but to do it again after being a goal down to a magnificent team like Chelsea is unbelievable," he said. "Together we achieved it.
"The atmosphere helped, the manager's tactics, everything was spot on. But we crossed the line and we stuck together.
"We have the best goalkeeper in the world. But all credit to Chelsea."
Kuyt, who scored the crucial penalty, added: "It was very special for me - it will be my first final in my first year at Liverpool.
"We just believed in it. Pepe Reina was fabulous."

I really must have still had my red tinted specs on during Moureens interview, becuase i thought he said we Were'nt the better side???
I wasn't sure, but I think initially he said we were definitely the better side tonight etc, then certain questions wound him up a bit and he said Chelsea were the best team but lost and these things happen in football. You could see him starting to get a bit angry, but in fairness he controlled himself pretty well.

Rafael Benitez reflected on the Champions League semi-final victory over Chelsea and admitted it was maybe a better feeling than the 2005 success.
The Liverpool manager couldn't praise his players and the Liverpool supporters enough and he said it was a fantastic victory for the club.
"Maybe it was better than when we beat Chelsea in 2005 and I am really, really proud of my players," enthused Benitez.
"Chelsea are a very good side with some good players and at times it was difficult to control them. They had a lot of free-kicks but we defended really well and worked so hard all through the game.
"Our supporters were fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing and we are going to enjoy this victory.
"Pepe Reina was fantastic in the penalty shoot-out and he is an expert when it comes to that.
"This is a really important victory for the club and for the future."
“Hicks could have purchased Dallas’ MLS franchise but decided not to. ‘In hindsight, I probably made the wrong decision,’ he said.“.

Rafael Benítez felt "passion and determination", as well as the support of the home crowd at Anfield, were the key factors in Liverpool FC defeating Chelsea FC on penalties to reach the UEFA Champions League final once again. Daniel Agger scored the only goal in normal time, before Pepe Reina saved two spot-kicks in a 4-1 shoot-out success. "Chelsea were the better team," opined José Mourinho, who also offered thanks to his players and congratulations to their conquerors, as uefa.com rounds up the reaction from the semi-final second leg.
Rafael Benítez, Liverpool manager
We started really well but they have good players and it was difficult to control the game. Chelsea were fantastic in the second half, they played really well but we were working really hard around our box. We had some chances to finish the game but didn't take them. I think the players knew today how to beat Chelsea. They played with determination and passion and with our supporters behind them. Our supporters were superb and the atmosphere was amazing. I am really proud of them and my players. I will try and enjoy tomorrow night [when AC Milan and Manchester United FC compete to meet Liverpool in the final] and I'm not going to say who I prefer to win as it will the upset the other team's fans.
José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
They had a good short period in the first half, but I saw one team in blue playing to win the game. We deserve to be in the final. Chelsea were the better team in the first leg, for 90 minutes in this leg and in extra time. In ten to 20 years nobody will remember that. A penalty shoot-out is part of the game and they were stronger at that part of the game. Chelsea showed more appetite in trying to win the game but at the end of the day they're in the final. Congratulations. I have to be proud of my players and share this difficult moment with them. I know Chelsea fans' hearts and every fan will be disappointed but supportive.
