The only thing that took the edge off my enjoyment of last nights game was the constant "sit down!" from behind me.
I didn't stand all the way through. But if something emotional happened I'd briefly stand up to yell at the ref then sit down again. Typically at that point the play was dead anyhow.
The other times I stood up was when everyone else did and it was an option between staying sat and missing it, or standing up and seeing it.
Even though I was far back I was getting pokes in the back or hands forced on my shoulder with yells of "sit down!"
Like I said to two of the guys "I'll happily swap with you but it won't solve your problem."
If I'm at a game like that I want to lose myself in it, not be half conscious of the poke in the back that's coming. So that spoiled the match though not the result for me.
I can see their point of view because one of the guys had a stick and couldn't bob up and down like everyone else was. At the same time, I'm not going to miss everything just because he can't see in some sort of bizarre act of solidarity. Plus, even if I sat down, he'd only see the back of the fella in front of me who was stood up.
Shouldn't the club do more for these old geezers who've probably been watching the Reds before I was even born.
I think its completely unrealistic for them to expect people to behave like they are in a movie cinema. Its unrealistic to expect people not to leap up or occasionally stand, and even more unrealistic to expect everyone else to stay sat if everyone in front of us stands first.
I think in their position I'd just accept the reality that I'm unlikely to be able to see everything all the time at the match and accept that its worth it for being there and having the atmos, because expecting everyone to stay on their arse constantly, even at moments of emotion or massive excitement is cloud cuckoo land and isn't going to happen.
But at the same time, if these old fellas can't be bobbing up and down then perhaps theres some sort of solution, especially with the new stadium being built.
After saying that, one of the geezers stood up all the way through half time, which got on my tits a bit after his mate had been manhandling me several times.
Serious question though nonetheless.

It only last about 10 minutes, then he spent the rest of the night holing his sore leg.
