    Injuries

    Rafa said...

"I have four players injured," said Rafa. "Pepe Reina has a shoulder problem, Mark Gonzalez and Alvaro Arbeloa have ankle problems and Momo Sissoko has a knee injury. We will have to wait and see how they all are."

It's essential Reina is fit for May 23rd, the other three can be easily replaced.

      Yep.

I'd be keeping Pepe safe from now on. He's crucial.

These are minor injuries I would think.

I would've thought so too, so why all the fuss from Rafa and the official site - 'RAFA COUNTS THE COST' it screamed as though we'd suffered a few broken legs.

I would stick Pepe with Stevie, Carra, Riise, Mashc, and Kuyt
all in the same big roll of cotton wool and open it up on May 20th.

well that seems a bit at odds with this off the sky sports website:

Benitez fielded an under-strength side following the UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea in midweek, but he was pleased with the efforts of his players.

He explained: "We had chances and their goalkeeper was good, but I have no players injured and I am happy.

                  FFS!

I saw Pepe moving his shoulder a bit gingerly just after he had to stretch to punch away, didn't think it was anything major though. Hopefully he'll be fine.

Rafa sweating about 4 possible injuries.

Liverpool Manager Rafa Benitez is sweating on the fitness of four of his players after they picked up injuries during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Reds were beaten by a second half goal from Fulham substitute Clint Dempsey, but Rafa was more concerned with the condition of some players who had been the recipients of some over zealous challenges.

"I have four players injured," said Rafa. "Pepe Reina has a shoulder problem, Mark Gonzalez and Alvaro Arbeloa have ankle problems and Momo Sissoko has a knee injury. We will have to wait and see how they all are."

Benitez was particularly unhappy with a headbutt by Fulham Captain Michael Brown on Xabi Alonso that went unpunished. He said: "It's clear for everybody to see this incident and how the officials didn't see it is unbelievable."

On the game itself, Rafa defended his decision to make nine changes and pointed to a number of missed chances that might have seen Liverpool win the game.

"We had five clear chances in the first half which should be enough to win the game. If you want to win matches you have to take your chances, it's as simple as that. They had two chances and scored one goal."

                        I'm not surprised.

Bennett was totally useless. Brown should have been sent off twice and Diop should have had at least three yellow cards.

It was free hunting on Alonso and I'm surprised that he didn't got a bad injury.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Out of those only Reina is a concern. The others won't be in the side playing Milan.

Hopefully it's just a strain and not a tear of any muscle. I guess if it suspected to be a bad injury Rafa would have subbed Pepe off?

You'd think so, but things like muscle problems somtimes only show up in scans afterwards.
