Generally speaking though. Why should violence be dealt with differently just because it happens on a football pitch?

It depends on the level, I dont consider either of the incidents on Saturday as violence, Ball's may have been premeditated but Brown's wasnt (but he is a dirty ****), either way i see worse every Saturday night in Liverpool and the police never get involved. Duncan Ferguson once was prosecuted for a proper head butt in Scotland so it does happen, i think if it is of sufficient level then yes the police should get involved, but i guess we have different ideas of what constitutes criminal violence.

No he will plead he didnt mean it, if he had repeatedly done it then yes, seriously it happens in Rugby every single game, people on the floor get trod on. Whether it was intentional or not he will say he didnt mean it. I dont class it as prosecutable as we would be seeing court cases with on the pitch incidents all the time.
Ball might get 6 games they have said today i think that is adequate.

Joey Barton on that City player i have never heard of was assault.
Thing is though, is that Brown is a serial offender. Check the youtubes that were posted. Steve McMahon said on ESPN that when Brown was coming through that vicious fouls were all he had to his game. Recent events seem to confirm that. Why should he be treated the same as Stevie G?

In the US we have this thing called 10-20-life-death for gun crimes. Brown is definitely getting close to death.

With all due respect, this is crap. He took an extra step to stomp on his ribs. He could claim till he was blue in the face but it is still clearly intentional. It is IMHO not football but violence.

And I have seen enough of rugby to know that that is very different.

I didnt say it was my opinion, only what he will say. He will be banned and rightly so, if Christiano wants to bring charges against him he can, but he will move on and accept that the FA punishment is enough. I have no doubt it was intentional as i said yesterday, it was an attempt to ensure Ronaldo lost his spirit for the game, it didnt work and Ronaldo had the last laugh.

I didnt make a comparison in treatments only that Brown is a certain type of player, Stevie used to be similar in some games as did Keane, Viera, Essien etc. The FA have all the evidence to deal with these issues like they did with Thatcher, they have to treat them all individually and punish accordingly. I bet Ball gets 6 games and Brown 3 any takers?

Seems like both offences were similar enough to deserve the same punishment.

BTW Didn't mean to imply you thought that should be treated the same! Just a generalization on my part
