With some fans expressing frustration over the club's ticketing policy for the Champions League final, Chief Executive Rick Parry spoke to local radio about the difficulties Liverpool face in trying to please everyone after a ticket to Athens.

What do you say to those supporters who have been to every home Champions League game this season and might not qualify for a final ticket?

We understand that many people will be frustrated and we sympathise with them. The problem we have this time is there just aren't enough tickets to satisfy our demand and so we believe the only way to fairly allocate them is to institute a ballot system.

How many fans will qualify under the seven credits or more scheme and so be guaranteed a ticket for Athens?

There are about four thousand of our fans who have seven Champions League credits to their name and they will all get first crack at the tickets.

The big difference this time compared to Istanbul is the amount of our supporters who have been to six games. There is a huge jump in numbers this time and that's where we have problems. In 2005 those who had six credits were largely okay but this time it's not going to be the case and that's frustrating. There are vastly more numbers of people who are eligible than there are tickets.

What do you say to those people who argue season ticket holders with six credits should then be given priority?

There are always a million ways to do things but this is what we decided at the start of the season and I don't see it as being fair to change the rules now.

I understand some people say season ticket holders with six credits should get priority but we made it clear at the start of the season that attendance in the earlier rounds of the competition would be taken into account when allocating tickets for the final. To be fair, treating competitions differently is something we have been doing on a consistent basis for four years.

The same applies with the League Cup where we have always rewarded those fans who went to the less glamorous earlier games when it came to deciding how we sold our final tickets.

Have you asked UEFA for more tickets?

In an ideal world we'd have been allocated more tickets for Athens and we spent all day with UEFA on Friday asking the question. There is a suggestion that Milan will be returning some of their tickets and so we asked whether we could have them, but the answer was a clear no. Those tickets will go back into the big pot.

The other thing we told UEFA was that we know there will be more than 17,000 of our fans inside the stadium that night. There's no doubt about that. So we asked if we could have more tickets and then at least we could control the process and the sale of those tickets. Again, sadly, the answer was no and I don't think they will be changing their position.

It's very disappointing from our point of view and I know there are lots of frustrated fans out there. The biggest problem though is just that we don't have enough tickets. It's as simple as that.

Liverpool will release full selling details for the Champions League final on Tuesday.

That's fair enough. I don't hold anything against the club. If I'm succesful in the ballot then great but if not I have no hard feelings. I'd love to go but some you win some you lose.

            Tow questions

How many tickets were we allocated in 2005 and how many fans ended up attending the game?

How many fans do you think will attend the final as 17000 tickets is peanuts?

Well Marcus I reckon there was at least 40,000 in 2005 and I reckon there will be about 30,000 max in Athens. Istanbul was bloody difficult to get to and Italian supporters don't travel well. Athens is that much easier.

And how many tickets were given to each side ?

Edit - Sorry Marcus, didn't see your comments first!

I think there will be less tickets available for Reds fans. Not only because the allocation is less but also I think Milan fans will go that extra mile this time. I think there will be less Liverpool fans travelling purely because the prices seem much higher this time for travel. A lot of fans will think "Well I went to Istanbul so I ain't gonna bankrupt myself this time". The fact that Chelsea and Manure stayed in to the end has badly affected prices. Greeks are fanatical about football so they won't give up their tickets without wanting top dollar.
