Apart from Vidic all of those players at the time were exactly what we needed and still need! It's worth paying over odds rather than buying 5 players on the cheap (costing more) hoping he is the 'one'.

I agree, however, at that time we might only have had x amount of money, without having to pay OTT what the club thought they were worth, so therefore refusing to enter a bidding war per se.

And the same clubs will no doubt be after the same players this year, so hopefully the same mistakes won't happen again, and no doubt the selling club will want to turn it into a bidding war. Defo not a win-win situation, but at least we should be at the table negotiating for once.

Ronaldo was hardly a war, we put a bid in was accepted, United came in with a ridiculous bid at the time so we lost out, Ferguson got it right, the sun even shines on a dog's arse some days.
