There has been a lot of talk from inside the club that Liverpool will try to sign the players that will enable us to mount a serious title challenge next season. I was just wondering what would be more important to the fans - winning the CL or the Prem.
Obviously we all want to win the Premiership because of a few reasons - firstly because it has been too long Liverpool not to have been the CHAMPIONS of england. Also, the likes of SG and JC have won every trophy bar the Premiership at this stage.
However, a lot of people regard Milan as the best team in Italy right now - based purely on the fact that they have got through to the final of the champions league for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Their recent european record has been very impressive - indeed they are the only team to reach the last 8 in the last 3 seasons. Also, real madrid have won **** all in the past couple of seasons - but they are still regarded as one of the greatest teams in europe because of their european history - 9 european cups!!! Can anybody tell me (without looking up google) how many spanish leagues they have??? Barcelona are regarded as a great team but also as a club that have underachieved because they only have 2 european cups to their name. Are man united regarded in the same way across europe???
I expect a lot of people to say that they would prefer the premiership because they want to stop the rivals like manU, chelsea and arsenal winning more but as a worldwide (or european-wide) achievement, and in order for or club to get greater acclaim, I personally feel that winning more and more european cups would be more of an achievement.
So I ask you this - in 5 or 6 years time, would you rather that liverpool had 18 league titles and 7 (or 8) european cups or would you prefer us to have 21 league titles and 5 (or 6 - hopefully come may 24th!!) european cups???
Also, on another note - i see Slur Alex said last week that liverpool had the luxury of only concentrating on the CL this season and that is why we got into the final. In my view he'd wanna shut the fcuk up - he got to ONE final in 21 years as manager of the scum - the fact that rafa has got to 2 in 3 seasons must surely gawl him - and also highlights the fact that he is not as good a manager as he has been made out to be.
