FWIW, I would love to see VDV, jury still considering Wesley. Let the mancs waste £40M+ on Berbatov and Hargreaves.

40m wasted? that would make them a hell of a lot stronger and better in europe as well. Overpriced - Yes. Wasted -no.

I agree, I do think he is good but cant see the point on wasting money on an area we are well covered in, although i think he has a not bad scoring record all be it in Holland

£8 Million is a bargain but I can't see it happening.

I would pick Sneijder every time. He is a high quality player.

True, true, not a complete waste as the players mentioned wouold improve thier squad (I am starting to get drawn into the discussion I was comdemning, here).

I cannot believe that £40M would be a justifyable invetment for two decent international players, even in todays market. Really, is Hargreaves much better than Scott Parker/Joey Barton and would Berbatov add more to their accatck than say Anelka or Benni Mac.

But hey, **** 'em, and I hope they sign players who turn out to be as average as Alan Smith, Carrick and Ronaldo .

Hargreaves is far better positionally and probabaly uniquely for an England international a very good short passer. He offers an experienced (including at the higest levels of club and debatably international football) holding midfield player, who also has the engine to get up and down the pitch if required.

Berbatov is much more creative as a forward. If I'm honest he only found his form recently but if that will be his standard from now on he offers a lot more guile that McCarthy and Anelka. Although once Anelka had a lot more potential, now he has atrophied I don't think any really top team would want him.

At the top level you pay a premium for incremental improvements because they are so rare.

Added to that both players are relatively young and so will last a good number of years.

yup - Carrick was a severe rip off but you can't deny he's helped them to the title this year. He was ****e in Europe, but that's another matter entirely
