considering it was the first league game of the season, and bearing in mind sheffield were up for it and trying to make a statement, for the first appearance,in the premiere league, they played very very well,Hulse was impressive aswell was Tonge.
Liverpool could have played better if carragher and riise, had stayed on the pitch but otherwise it was a mediocre game, not upto the standards required for the rest of the season,
Sheffield played an Impresive first game

I think benitez, was thinking of the maccabi Haifa game which is more important, and did not want the team to over do themselves,I hope the injuries sustained are only minor and will not have an impact for the Champions League

I think the team was a reflection of this weeks internationals. The team that he put out puzzled me but he probably didn't think he had enough time with most of the lads that were away so didn't play them, except Sami,Riise,Carra,Bellamy and Stevie.Out of that 5 only Stevie(Riise while on) looked a threat but had his fair share of crap passes. But we were shocking.Couldn't string 2 passes together,Robbie was bad but he's just come back from a 2 week layoff so i'll forgive him, especially as we now have someone capable from the spot.

        God that was shocking.

Reina - Some good claims, but other than that had nowt to do.

Jk - Been a supporter of the lad, but he was horrible today. Horrible.
SH - Looked off the pace, and is getting slower by the day.
JC - Wasn't on the pitch long enough. Recovered well from a mistake.
        JAR - Will be missed.

SG - MS and BZ meant he was isolated for much of the game
MS - Needs to srive forward more. Didn't do much wrong to be fair. Oh, and stop diving.
BZ - Wasn't awful but I expected a lot more. If we don't have 2 of Alonso, Gerrard or Sissoko in the middle we suffer. Don't do it again please.
FA - Some decent crosses and passes but didn't really make much of an impact.

CB - Decent if not great. Didn't do much wrong. A million miles better than Cisse.
RF - Has lost weight but he was poor today. Good penalty doesn't hide a poor performance.

MG - Did OK, nothing more. Nice run and dribble, but too quiet.
DA - I like him very much. Hope to see more of him than Hyypia at this rate.
JP - Not enough time to make an impact.

Nice 1-2 with Gerrard which resulted in the penalty, and cooly finished it off and he only gets 4/10?
Our midfield were pants and didnt create enough openings, stop blaming the strikers. Zenden was useless today and Momo had a unusually poor game (wasnt protected by the ref), Gerrard had an off day as well, a couple of miscontrols and poor passes.
Rafa got this one wrong, he should have used pennant from the beginning and leave zenden on the bench.
Anyhow 1 point is an ok result. Arsenal could only draw Villa at home.

Reina (6). Wasn't given much to do, left helpless for the goal

Kromkamp (4). Hurry back Steve Finnan

Hyypia (5) All over the place like a mad woman's piss in the first half, but improved as the rest of the team did.

Carragher (5). Hope he's back soon, although Agger did OK.

Riise (5). REALLY hope he's back soon.

Sissoko (4). I'm afraid that the sobriquet I gave him last year, "Brains", fitted him well today. Ran about like a headless ****ing chicken and has NO CLUE how to dictate play or the pace of a game.

The Weeble (2). At least Sissoko can run. This cnut did even less. Why does Benitez have a blind spot about certain players? How is Zenden even getting a game? He's ****ing ****e.

Gerrard (5). Only woke up in the second half, but perhaps, like me, he was stunned that players like Sissoko and Zenden can be ahead of him in the pecking order for a central midfield spot. Won us a dubious penalty, and ONCE AGAIN FOR ABOUT THE FIFTH SEASON IN A ROW, looked like the only player capable of getting hold of the game.

Aurelio (5). Some nice touches and one nice free-kick, but I'm not sure he knows how to mark, which is a bit of a minus point for a full-back.

Bellamy (5). He never stops trying or running, but his goalthreat was nowhere to be seen today. Ditto his service.

Fowler (5). Well, he was rubbish, but scored the penalty, so he JUST gets a 5.

            Subs:

            Gonzo (3). Hopeless

Agger (5). Fiited in well, ie a 5 and pretty average

            Tennants (n/a).

are you for ****ING real or a wind up merchant..go watch the match then come back with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism you ****..:whatever:

I quite like Bredan's posts, though his reading of the game is shocking!

I gave him a chance, though even though he seems an intelligent chap, he must watch games through milk bottles!

I was referring to his wordcuntery . Intelligence isn't defined by football alone - thankfully in his case!

This guy came from the KT zoo, if that helps? I rate him higher than a bamboon though.

that is an insult to a bamboon

I remember him from KT, think he was kicked out for being a knobhead.

I like him to be fair. His ratings should be dimissed on sight though, i agree.

He gets confused with football, gawd bless him

Edit - I'm sure he's never actually played football at any reasonable level. And that's always a problem when commenting on the beautiful game. He concentrates on the negative far too much, the game isn't always as easy as some fans dream it. Also the opposition's tactics are rarely accounted for in such raucous critiques!

Aurelio - absolutely SHOCKING defending for the goal. Sort it out.
can't believe there hasn't been much said about his 'defending' for that goal. He's supposed to be a defender FFS and his defensive instinct was to watch Hulse run through. He just stood and watched him FFS.

It's got nothing to do with ****ing zonal marking or ****ing being new to a defence. A DEFENDER SHOULD ALWAYS TRACK AN ATTACKER IF THEY ARE ABOUT TO SMACK IN A FREE ****ING HEADER.

I hope Rafa ****ing made him walk home.

Indeed, i've said it all pre-season - the whole left center defence is a real worry over the whole season.

If i was an opposing manager i was attack this weakness.

I'm counting the goals that come from this flank this season - however krompkunt did his best to even the score today!

                              I should elaborate further...

THe LB position is the one that worries me the most. Both JR and FA seem to love to bomb forward, sometimes this is a nice outlet - other times this a massive deficiency as we don't have someone with the awareness to cover! SHOUT - MOMO

Hyypia is becoming a free role CB and needs schooled - in rafa we trust. However, don't be surprised if Agger becomes carra's partner this season or we dip in the market in Jan!

I reckon we should have a new prediction game this season... sod predicting the result... I reckon points should be alloacated for correctly guessing a player named in the squad.. with maybe bonus points for guessing the correct position.

Put simply, I believe Benitez made a mistake in team selection today. Nobody should have been under the illusion that Sheffield Utd were going to be anything other than "physical" and while he may have been resting the odd player for midweek, Zenden at CM was "not ideal".

injuries certainly played a part in Benitez' ability to change things, but crouch should also have started. I firmly believe that Fowler, Bellamy & Garcia are only going to have a consistent positive impact for us if they are playing off Crouch or Kuyt.

We were poor, the penalty should never have been given, but were it not for one moment of horrendous marking we could have taken all the points. Certainly, Reina could have brought a newspaper on to the pitch with him and busied himself with the cryptic crossword, such was his involvement in the game.

Anyway... it's the first game of the season.... let's try not to be all doom and gloom... we looked slightly off the pace... but we will be much better than that.
