Pulling off these South American signing is a massive intend and coup for the club.

A couple of years ago it was just the likes of Real Madrid, Barca and AC Milan were snapping up these talented players.
When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

He won the Golden Boot in Brazil last year, so I guess he's more than a defensive midfielder

        You don't have a clue
        Agree

Also Rafa indicated in that interview that he wanted Lucas in Liverpool so he could aclimatise and learn the lingo, suggesting that he might not be immediate first team choice. He's good, but he's young and foreign. Rafa is genius and blooding young newbies, like he has done with Agger.

This will mean we will need all 4 of our current CMs.

Entirely possible we will be playing 4-2-3-1 next season, or (please God no) SG will still be playing on the right a lot, in which case we'd need to keep all our CMs as well as bringing in this new lad. Zenden excepted obv.

He sounds promising, and we do need a new central midfielder who is dynamic and more of a goal threat. Prices quoted between £5-8m and that's coming from Brazil where players tend to be cheaper so you'd think he must be the biz. Look forward to seeing him.

I think Xabi might be going, where does he fit in?? I know he is one of the best passers in the world but everyone must admit his form has been pretty poor this season and he rarely has been consistent throughout his Liverpool career. Unless Rafa is looking to play 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 next year I don't seeing him playing much next season. He could decide to play Stevie G on the right again but if that happens expect Stevie to finally crack!

Maybe we can send him to Barca and they can send Eto'o the other way!

What, he scored more goals than any other player in Brazil last year?? Or does the golden boot not relate solely to goalscoring?

Golden Boot is normally reserved for Top Goal scorer? But wikipedia confirms that it's given to the Best Player in the League

Anyway this season he has scored 5 goals from 38 games for his club and he has scored 3 goals from 5 starts for Brazil in Friendlies

Best player in Brazil at the age of 20 is very impressive.
Has he been compared to Gago?

Has Mali qualified for the African nations championship next Jan. Because if so, we need Lucas + everyone else to cover that absentee.

Just means Zenden will not be offered a contract, I guess
                      We need better attacking players!

                      Torres aint enough

Well said. Why people seem to think one of our best players should be sold is beyond me. Xabi is one of the best CM in Europe and I doubt that Lucas will be upto Xabis standard next year.

This basically means that most peoples first decision upon getting a massive cash injection would be to weaken the team. Arsenal did this when they sold Veira, and as promising as their youngsters are (Diaby, Denilson) they are not yet anywhere near the level of Veira. They may have considered it right to sell him due to his age and them being skint, but we do not have those reasons.

                        Xabi will stay.
                        Forwards.......

Gremio chief reveals Man Utd, Liverpool vying for Pezzini

Manchester United and Liverpool are among European heavyweights chasing Gremio midfielder Lucas Pezzini.

The 20 year-old Brazil international is wanted by the world's biggest clubs and it broke this week in Sao Paulo that Liverpool have made a breakthrough in talks over the holding midfielder.

However, Gremio vice-president Tulio Macedo rapped last night: "We have still not sold nothing to nobody, neither to Liverpool neither to AC Milan or Palermo, Fiorentina, Manchester United: all the clubs that are interested in Lucas.

"We will have bigger developments in the next hours, I do not know how much we want for him - but I cannot deny that Lucas is close to leaving our club."
