And how many South Americans made an immediate impact after signing straight from South America?

Nearly all of them needed a few months to adjust. Even Ronaldo, Rivaldo and yes Maradona even struggled at Barcelona.

    Try reading my post properly.

And Crespo and Veron had establised themselves in Italy prior to arriving in the Premiership, both were proven internationals, so if they had a hard time adjusting, what of a youngster straight off the boat from across the pond?

Spot on - every team needs a few of them. Could be used at half time if the team isn't doing well

My point was the premiership is harder - established South Americans in playing in Italy, Spain etc have struggled when moving to the Premiership. Gonzo has had more than a few months to settle. He lacks close control and dribbling which is what we need in a winger as we now play with a high line - Gonzo is a typical counter attacking winger he uses his speed to get past players and for this reason he's always going to struggle, particularly with our formation.

Oh, by the way - Ronaldo cracked 30 goals in his first season in Europe as an 18 year old and Rivaldo hit 21 goals in his first season at Deportivo playing in the hole and not an out-and-out striker.

As I said before, there are many players from South America who have made it big within their first season. Then there are some who have shown a lot of promise but have never made it, Denilson and Robinho being big examples. Give Gonzalez another season, but I very much doubt he's gonna make it.

I've said it before- it is harsh as he has needed time to settle but I think he should be sold for economic reasons - he's still worth something but another season here and he's not gonna be worth £1 Million - we're gonna struggle to shift him like we have done with Le Tallec, Diao, Cheyrou etc etc. We might have new investment, but we're not gonna have as much money to spend as people think.

Nah, use him on the his fellow players just to awaken them a bit and give them some energy - bit like Red Bull or the English FA's favourite: Lucozade

Are you suggesting something along the lines of this?

                Footballers win sex toy damages

A German sex toy firm is to pay German football stars Michael Ballack and Oliver Kahn 50,000 euros each after it used their names to sell vibrators.

The stars sued the firm Beate Uhse because it sold special World Cup vibrators called "Michael B" and "Olli K" last year without their permission.

The damages - £34,000 ($67,000) for each player - were awarded in Hamburg.

Ballack is a Chelsea midfielder, while Kahn is the Bayern Munich goalkeeper.

The footballers had originally demanded 60,000 euros each in damages.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'd also like to add, I understand players like Gonzalez are young and need time to settle but we can't afford to wait around 1-2 seasons to see whether these players are going to settle if we want to become Premiership Champions. If players are good enough, then they should settle down in under a season unless they are completely raw and have never had regular first team action. Bergkamp, Henry and Pires are players who took under a season to settle but then started kicking butt.

Not sure whether a Ballack dildo would be any good. But a Gattuso or Sissoko Dildo - now that would be very impressive: long lasting, powerful, not afraid to get stuck in. And also, Dildo rhymes with Gattuso and Sissoko.

It's not a very good rhyme for either though.

                                Vickery on Lucas

On Talk****e earlier this afternoon, South American football expert raved about Lucas Leiva, stating he was voted the best player in the Brazilian championship. Different from the current crop of Brazilian central midfielders as he is very attack minded. Although he is strong and powerful (ooh err) and very capable of adapting to the English game.

The whole gist of what he said sounded very promising indeed, he also said he is one for the present not the future.
