He talks about the UEFA Cup final in Glasgow and says that it's a fantastic archievment to have reached the final two years in a row.

Not seen a huge amount of him but did take time out to watch the spurs/ossasuna matches in the uefa cup and must say he didn't overly impress me.

The price tag is fcuking crazy IMHO

my hunch is that either MADRID OR BARCA will sign him

Didn't they spend that on Carvalho? And the great Paulo Ferreira wasn't far off

Agreed. Best player in La Liga this year according to Guillem Balague and the sky man (Hunter?) on Revisita La Liga a couple of weeks back.
                  Forwards.......

Of course. Anyone who claims to disagree has obviously never seen him play. He may be a diving c*nt, but he's a ****ing brilliant player.

Aye, I agree. Alves is a good player.

I don't like Simao though. Even if Scissors Sister sings his name repeatedly in that "Laura it's the last time I cut your hair" song.

He is a very good player, I do wonder though how he would settle in the Premier League, he just strikes me as the type who will not like the physical nature of the English game.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I dunno. He's a tough little c*nt. He also ripped Middlesbrough apart and did the same to Spurs for 45 minutes in the 2nd leg before he was substituted at half-time.

I'd be well happy if we signed Alves.

The cost is once again the real problem, with Sevilla probably looking for a lot more money that what they wanted the last time we tried. He's their best player though and deservedly want to get as much as possible for him.

My main worry over signing Alves though is where we'd play him. Finnan's been great at full back over the years, and the stories we hear is that Rafa wants to tie him to a longer contract so he's very much in his plans. We also have Arbeloa there who has covered well when called upon. So the obvious place for Alves would be right midfield.

My main worry of playing him there is how he'd cope playing further up the pitch when he's been used to running at players, and playing the game from further back. It's a lot easier to make your runs and take players on from a position where you can clearly see ahead of you, but playing further up the pitch may not get the best out of the lad. It may not be a worry at all, but for me, he'd unproven in a position further up the pitch and no-one really knows how he'd cope with it.

He'd certainly strengthen the right flank for us though, and would add some goals from ther too.

As I'd already said on another thread this morning - Rafa knows best!

                              Exactly

Have you seen much of him mate? He makes me cringe; he gets worse and worse (not on about playing ability)and his antics are, I have to say, even worse than Robben, Ronaldo and Drogba's

                                Alves

                                ----------------Plus points--------------

Works very hard for the team
                                Can play in many positions
                                Great crosser
                                Can get past his man
                                Quick
                                Great skill
                                Good passer
Gives the team a lot of energy
                                A winner

                                -----------------Minus points-------------

Can get cought out of position
                                Dives a lot
Not that good in the air

                                --------------------------------
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
