Ok, it's 2011..........Stevie is showing signs of wear n tear. The lung busting runs have gone, the explosive burst of speed and power that allows him to effortlessly surge past players have ceased. The shooting, whipped crossing, and tackling is still there though and of great use on the pitch. Where do you play him? Does anyone see him as a future centre back, or is this too much of a specialist position for a title challenging side?

definitely not. he'll be 30/31 in 2011 and still a class player.
also he may have moved on by then, you never know

I don't know if Stevie could hold, it would certainly take him a while to learn the position. His game is based so much on his energy and the way he gets around the pitch, once he started losing that he'd be like a little boy lost for a while.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostStick him at right back, or as a central 'holding' player like Didi.
But then Stevie minus the energy & pace basically = Xabi doesn't it?!

Not a bad shout, he played there when he first broke into the 1st team at 18/19/20 and played really well.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostStick him at right back, or as a central 'holding' player like Didi.
Has the passing and tackling ability to play that role."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

It will be a bit strange when Gerrard becomes all slow, less energetic around the field, ala Roy Keane.
For years we'd have been used to seeing Stevie storm around the pitch.
2011 is a bit early though, many players at that age still have great stamina etc, 32/33 that's the time we'd see him lose his pace and all the rest."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Agreed....I can already see it.....sitting tight for 89 mins but will always break once a match to remind us of the legend he has been for us. He has it all, he will be fine, even when hes old and knackered.Originally posted by einar View PostHe will, when his pace is gone, be the worlds best holding midfielder.

Completely different type of player though.Originally posted by einar View PostBarnes.
Barnesy was a master at keeping the ball, never really seen him give the ball away cheaply, Gerrard on the other hand takes risks with his passes and to be fair does give the ball away quite a bit in some matches."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been.
