Most of that list are either players we'd never really heard of before (e.g. Hyypia, Arbeloa, Agger and Sissoko) or players that the knowledgeable fans on internet forums thought weren't good enough (Finnan, Crouch) because they weren't "big names".

My point is that Jagielka is a very good versatile young English player available for only £6m and IF Rafa thinks he's good enough then that'll do for me...

I agree with this point, but I'd hope we don't pay close to 6m for him. I just cannot see where he'd fit into the side, and at 6m it seems too much for just a 'squad player'.

Quite. This would be my argument too.

Jagielka is obviously a good player. If you've watched him play you'll know that. He's their Gerrard, in some ways. He's versatile, reads the game well, comfortable in possession and strong in the tackle.

But not so long ago Michael Tonge was being trumpeted by all and sundry. Again, he's a good player but I wouldn't want us to sign him either.

Jagielka is a good centre half, a good right back and a decent midfielder. Where would he fit in with us?
