Herrera can win another trophy tonight

Ex-Reds coach Herrera eyes UEFA Cup win with Espanyol
    May 16 2007
    Liverpool Echo

FORMER Liverpool coach Paco Herrera is aiming for his third major trophy in as many years as Espanyol take on Seville in tonight’s UEFA Cup final.

Herrera left his role as reserve coach and chief scout to become Director of Football at the La Liga club last summer.

He’s overseen a huge improvement at the club, who are neighbours to Barcelona, but they’re clear underdogs at Hampden Park.

Herrera isn’t the only personality with Anfield connnections at tonight’s fixture.

Long term Reds target Daniel Alves is sure to be closely watched as Liverpool ponder to reignite their interest in the Seville full-back.

Seville skipper Javi Navarro is aiming to repeat his team’s success in last year’s final. He said: “I have so many great images in my head from last year that I would love to repeat.”

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Completely forgot about this match tonight. Just goes to show how secondary this competition is now. I cant beleive that if the FA, Everton and UEFA had their way we'd have been playing in it as Champions of Europe.

Wasn`t it UEFA that got us back in CL?

Yep, UEFA made a **** up because they didn't see that it was more than possible for a team to win the Champions League and then finish outside the top four. Credit to UEFA though, they let us play even if we had to go through 3 qualifying rounds. They've changed the rule now because of us: if a team wins the Champions League and then finish outside the top four, the team finishing in fourth place has to play in the UEFA cup

maybe we can get a good relationship with paco at espanyol, so we have a half way club for young spanish, or s.american talent we find but who might not adapt yet.

lucas, alex pato, gonzalez, get them there in la liga before bringing them over finally like arsenal do with salamanca. they have Carlos Vela from Mexico on loan there, seems a good situation

True, UEFA did let us in, but the day after the final WIlliam Galliard or whatever his name is, their official spokesman, was coming out and saying that there was no proposal to let Liverpool in, that if they did let us in then someone else would suffer, that there's no free lunch and as far as he was concerned we'd be in the UEFA Cup :whatever:

Obviously there was opposition within UEFA to let us in. I think the main opponent was A Turk on their committe who was against it becasue letting Liverpool straight in at the group stage would mean one of the Turkish sides having to qualify :whatever:

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

i think most fans don't follow the back staff, for that matter most don't either follow our youth system...
