Utter madness - for starters he's ONLY 22 - and he has more than enough potential to come good next season, we owe him for saving us against Macabi haifa too.
As long as he toughens up and stays off the injury list I am confident we'll start to see what he's capable of doing on a football pitch.
Give the foreigners a year tops to find their feet. One more year.. no imporvement..? ship him out by all means!!

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

Let's face it we've got tons of players who can play on the left, Kewell is the only real quality left winger we have and we can't rely on him to be fit, the rest are average. Someone's got to go. I know he's got potential but potential for what? To be 'quite good' if we're lucky? We should be expecting better than that and now, never mind in another year's time. I know it's slightly harsh on him because he's had some minor injuries disrupting him, it's only his first season etc, but out of all of them he's the one that goes IMO. Tough on him, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

For the amount he cost and the form he had in LALiga, the fact he's young and been thro a fair few injuries, the fact it takes some players time to settle I think we'd be stupid to get shot on an in/out season.
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

I think it's a bit quick to be selling him, i'd sooner see him given another season, however the downside is his price will only decrease the longer he's out of the limelight. Problem is with Harry coming back and Leto coming in I can't see the lad getting many chances. Rafa obviously doesn't feel to confident in him as he hasn't played very much really this season, it's a difficult on really, my feeling is that he'll go out on loan

I think he has more potential than you give him credit for. The trouble is we have seen that some players with the talent like Morientes just don't cut it in the PL. I hope that Rafa has gained the ability to tell which is which in his time with us.

I wouldn't be upset if Speedy left, I would eb a bit disappointed though.

Thing is, people point to players like Pires saying what an improvement they made in their second season etc, but Pires was pretty good in his first season and excellent in his second. Gonzalez has chipped in with a few goals but other than that he's looked like he couldn't beat an egg. What's the chances he's going to offer us what we need next season? Slim I'd say. If I'm being brutally honest I've realised of late that he more or less has to go.

send him on loan to a premiership side were he will get regular first team footie, a chance to adapt to this country and also we would be able to monitor his progress more closely. IMO to soon to just jib him off, and pointless sending him on loan abroad, we know he can play in spain, we need to see if he can do anything here.

But....if Hicks and Gillett are giving us a shid load of money and we can buy whoever the **** we want when we want, then yeah why not sell him and replace him with some real quality.

so to sum up, if we are only buying a couple of strikers and a centre back due to money constraints, keep/loan him

if we are going on a all out crazy motha ****a of a spend spree, buying the worlds best centre back, left back, left mid, right mid and two strikers -then **** it let him go.

A more apt comparison might be Finnan - looked a bit **** when he came after good performances for Fulham. Took him a while but now most Liverpool fans think he is one of the leagues best right backs.

it's plain to see gonzalez's confidence went pretty early and he never got it back. many have seen him play well in spain and know what he is capable of. he never got going this season and you could see in the way he played he was scared to try anything. his form was terrible, but this is due to his age, settling in a new country and league, injuries, and being in and out of the team.

he'll get better and i think it would be a waste to get rid of him now. at the most he should be loaned out so he can get some experience in the premier league playing week in week out. he has the potential to be a very good player and has shown flashes (tho not with us).

remember he was returning from a long injury layoff, then had injury problems throughout the season, he's just lost his form and deserves another chance.

funny that kewell is recieving all this praise now and gonzalez is getting slated, when it was the opposite at the start of the season

I'd loan him out for a season, maybe to a championship team, so he can learn the English game.

Its all very well buying these young lads from S America but i'm not too sure its the way forward. Its asking a hell of a lot to come to England at a young age, learn a new language & culture as well as adapt on the pitch. Its hardly surprising they struggle. Imagine how you'd find it moving to chile at 20 when you can't speak the lingo and then find your job is done somewhat differently to home.

I have to say that I've been very disappointed with him, however i think it is too early to let him go.

I found it annoying that excuses were being made for him at the same time that people wanted rid of Pennant after just a few months. If Speedy gets another go, say to the January window, and is injury free then he may still come good. If not then it is time to say goodbye.
