    Steven Taylor

very unlikely it may be, but if Newcastle do mess the lad around and he was available, i'd snap him up. he's strong, good in the air and getting better all the time. he's in the Carra no nonsense mould, but with a bit of Terry as he's scored a couple already if my memory serves me well.

would be my preferred 3rd choice CB if we were to be bringing one in seeing as Richards seems even more unlikely. Could be rotated with Carra and Agger where appropriate, only 21 and streets ahead of Paletta.

(provided he stops getting 'shot' on the goal line that is)

Good player. Houllier was supposedly sniffing around him when he was about 17.

        That's not a nice image.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

i'd rather him than milito who looks too small for the premiership to be honest, and would probably cost less. if we are to sign another CB i'd hope for a young Brit like him

He would be a decent buy if cheap and willing to sit in the bench. Certainly dangerous in the air from corners which is something we lack in our back four when Sami isn't playing.

not often we're wishing for a newcastle defender - I think he's an OK player has done nothing outstanding so far though

though 5-7m aint cheap, i think he'd be more willing to sit on the bench than Milito, or if we were to go to 3 at the back with wing backs, i'd rather give him a chance then let him go elsewhere.
Taylor and Richards both seem to be bright prospects, how much would you give to have the next English CB pairing if they both turned out to be gems. they aint scouse but at least they're English (in the least xenophobic way posible)

To be honest having a pair of young centrebacks of top quality would suit me fine (Agger and Taylor say) independent of nationality. Much like the goalkeeping reserve the third centreback in the squad is going to be a hard position to fill well. No one wants to sit on the bench all the time once they are established, Carra and Agger proved this season they can play nearly every game, yet we need to have cover that doesn't leave us exposed like Chelsea were this season.

In a way my prefered option would be for Palleta, Antwi or Hobbs to step up. I think Paletta of the three looks the most in need of games to understand his job - I would definitely loan him out. Antwi looks the least gifted (although I haven't seen an awful lot of him) but is certainly strong enough to make an impression. So I guess I hope that Hobbs progresses - which would be a young English player which would be nice.

loaning paletta to someone like Sunderland, and Antwi comewhere in League 1 is ideal. I think Hobbs of the 3 has shown to have what it takes out of the 3, and i would worry about him if we were to keep bringing in expereinced foreign players like Milito

I feel we need a more physical 2nd centre back who can partner Carra and Agger - someone like Hyypia in his early day who can handle long balls in to the box, someone with power who can handle someone like Drogba and enough pace to deal with the Henry's of the world. An injury free Ledley King, Woodgate would be ideal (I can't see Rafa signing either).

Gabriel Milito is a fine player, maybe too similar to what we have, but if it means we get his prolific goal scoring brother Diego I wouldn't mind.
                          We come not to play.
