As terrible as the situation is (I have a daughter of the same age who bears a striking resemblance to Maddie), I can't disagree with this.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostIf it had been a chavvy single mum from Manchester, there is no way there would have been such a media outcry.
I feel sorry for all those families who have missing sons/daughters who aren't recieving anything like the publicity Maddie is.
Well-to-do doctor types and there is an outcry.
Try and imagine how the parents of the missing kids who haven't had any publicity feel. That's the one...

It's not that they're getting too much attention, it's just about why these people in particular are getting so much attention. It's a difficult subject to broach without sounding cold.Originally posted by Pacman View PostThat's fair enough but it's not the little girls fault is it?
Jesus christ man she's been snatched from her parents and you think she is getting too much media attention?
This country
There was an article recently where a mum was sympathising with the family. Her son went missing 15 years ago or something similar. She got none of the support the current family are getting, and her son was never found. I tried to imagine how she must feel about this, although she was far too gracious? to mention this directly. That's the one...

I think we've gone overboard.
A minute's silence ? Come off it...Originally posted by DJS View PostI think the minute's silence was a bit off myself, but purely because that holds such negative connotations, symbolically.
I fully support the campaign and this incident has touched me personally.
But a minute's silence, i wouldnt have gone with. Keep the campaign going, keep suporting it and let's pray they find the poor little girl unharmed.
While there's still hope, i dont believe in doing a minute's silence.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostIf it had been a chavvy single mum from Manchester, there is no way there would have been such a media outcry.

Agree totally. Every now and then the press jump on the bandwagon of a tradegy that they think will sell papers and tug at the nations heartstrings. It's been a while since we had the last media frenzy and so I guess we were due one.
People go missing across UK/Europe/The World everyday and nobody bats an eyelid. Good luck to Maddie's family, I hope they take advantage of this media tidal wave and find their little girl.

i agree, i live in another country as a matter of fact i live in the middle of the atlantic ocean. and this was has been one of the biggest stories in the last few weeks all over the world. i really feel for the family and hope they get all the support they need. but whats the difference between one life here and one life over there. why am i in iceland in shock over a little 4 year old when thousands of people get slaughtered every day all over the world. we go ape **** over a little girl (which is a good thing btw) but when it not in our back yard we don't give a ****. thats hypocrisy of the highest order. i mean really what it the difference between a life here of there..."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

I cant see how anyone think this is OTT.
It is not. I'm glad to see this type of thing going on. Fair play to her parents and everyone else involved for raising awareness like this. Not OTT in the slightest as far as I am concerned.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

Perhaps it's got something to do with the parents being savvy and using the press to their advantage? I very much doubt because they are doctors is the reason they are getting so much attention.Originally posted by Robster007 View PostIt's not that they're getting too much attention, it's just about why these people in particular are getting so much attention. I really don't care how many banners people hold or how many times this story is front page news or how much this is on the TV just as long as the little girl is returned back to her parents. For people to have a moan about the ammount of media coverage they are getting is a bit sick to me.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

not moaning, i hope they get every bit of support they need, and i hope see returns fine. for me it has more to do with the hypocrisy of it all, concerning us, the viewers, why do we feel for this little girl and not others, how can the life of this little girl turn the country (europe) round whilst other more brutal affairs get brushed aside...Originally posted by le2red View Post4 year old girl gets snatched from her bed on holiday and people are moaning about the amount of coverage it is getting in the media?

FFS, let's hope none of you are ever in that position then."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. That topic is more suited to the library mate, this on the other hand is just recognizing the nice touch from the lads.Originally posted by Diego View Postnot moaning, i hope they get every bit of support they need, and i hope see returns fine. for me it has more to do with the hypocrisy of it all, concerning us, the viewers, why do we feel for this little girl and not others, how can the life of this little girl turn the country (europe) round whilst other more brutal affairs get brushed aside...Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

The minute's silence wasnt appropriate though. There's no evidence to suggest that the poor little girl is dead and god willing, she's still alive and well. I see a minute's silence as a moment of respect for someone who has passed away.

I admire your optimism and I hope and pray you're right, but let's be brutally honest here.....the chances of her being found alive and well are remote at best. A minute's silence is admitting as much.Originally posted by DJS View PostIt's not OTT at all.
