Minutes silence is stupid. However as a parent I would use the media as much as they have. The whole world would know. The media are there to be used and abused because if the tables were turned they'd have no second thought. Let them have as much publicity as they want. If it achieves its aim then who are we to criticise.

I think it's wrong some people have assumed that just because someone thinks the case has received too much publicity they are being callous. The whole point is there are a lot of seriously ****ed up things going on in the world, some of which are I'm sorry to say many times worse and/or more important for us to know about, and they receive far less media attention.
No doubt publicity in cases like these are vital, especially early on, and in no way can you blame the parents for doing anything they can to boost the chances of Maddy returning to them safely, but this level of prolonged media saturation doesn't sit right with me. They present it as some serial drama for us to tune into and find out the latest developments. I'm very conscious of the fact they feed us more and more of this story because it's good for their viewing figures and newspaper sales, not because it's newsworthy.Like blood on iron

i dont think anyone would argue or criticize the parents for trying to keep a story like this in the news.Originally posted by Red_Al_77 View PostMinutes silence is stupid. i think some people do have a problem with the double standards of it tho,i think we all know that if it was a bin man and his wife, they would have been vilified in most of the papers for leaving their kids unattended.
plus the fact that a minutes silence seems very much inappropriate at this point in time.
but good luck to the parents and i wouldnt like their minds.
whether they get the child back or not, they have to live with the fact that they done something as stupid as leave 3 babies unattended while they were out enjoying them selves, for the rest of their lives. You two scousers are always yapping,I'm gonna show you some serious rapping.

I suspect you are talking about Ben Needham who was kidnapped in Greece. Believe me given the media outlets of the time (no Sky, Internet etc) that was as high profile as this is.Originally posted by Robster007 View PostIt's not that they're getting too much attention, it's just about why these people in particular are getting so much attention. It's a difficult subject to broach without sounding cold.
There was an article recently where a mum was sympathising with the family. Her son went missing 15 years ago or something similar. She got none of the support the current family are getting, and her son was never found. I tried to imagine how she must feel about this, although she was far too gracious? to mention this directly.

Dead right , sky have been horrendous throughout in some ways ie the treatment of "suspects" but the fact is even though there are other similar cases worldwide , we dont get a say in the ones brought to light by the media , and if there is a monumental amount of attention focused on this child - i can only see that as a positive .Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostI think it's wrong some people have assumed that just because someone thinks the case has received too much publicity they are being callous. Ben Needham's disappearance in Kos received endless coverage. The fact I can remember his name testifies to that. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

It did get newspaper coverage, but I don't remember a minutes silence in any football stadia in the world, let alone the UK.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostJust a bit.
