When Liverpool walk out in the Athens Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night, the eyes of the world will be on them, as they once again lock horns with their European veteran opponents from Milan.
Between the two of them, Liverpool and Milan have won the European Cup an astonishing 11 times, and come midnight Wednesday local time, barring the agony of extra time and/or penalties, one of them will have added yet another notch to a bed-post the European envy of all other than Real Madrid.
It goes without saying that such a rich heritage and history has seen plenty come and go and for Liverpool, the list of legends is almost never ending.
But one legend, perhaps the biggest and certainly one of the most loved of the Liverpool story, will be looking down from above and hoping to see his unique status in Liverpool folklore, equalled by modern day captain Steven Gerrard.
Souness, Thompson and Gerrard himself have all experienced the prestige of lifting 'Old Big Ears' but one man whose name is etched firmly into the reddest of all red Merseyside carpets, is that of the late, great Emlyn Hughes, who is the only man to ever lift the trophy twice for the current five-time winners.
And for all the good wishes that go with the current squad to Athens, none will be more emphatic than those which come from above, from the much loved and greatly missed Hughes himself.
Not only one of Liverpool's finest legends, but also one of the most popular, Emlyn Hughes' will be looking down on the Olympic Stadium and will no doubt add his own voice to the thousands of others, reminding the Reds that they will indeed never walk alone.
Six of the craziest minutes ever seen, saw Liverpool on their way to their fifth European triumph in Istanbul and now Crazy Horse himself will be lending his support on Wednesday night.
More serious in demeanour than 'crazy' himself, but Steven Gerrard's name will be permanently written into the big big book of Liverpool FC legends should he lift the famous trophy for the second time in three years in two days' time. And if Gerrard does indeed move himself to the front of the Anfield Legend door, you can be sure there'll be a smiling much-loved legend on the inside, waiting to welcome him.
Steven, you will not be walking alone in Athens - for there will be a crazy horse galloping alongside you every step of the way. Bring it back for us, bring it back for Emlyn.
