Thanjk you.

Still though, you would expect shirt sales and merchandising to rocket if we win, also you would expect interest in us, in an advertising sense would be more than it is now. Everyone would want to associate their brand with LFC.
We broke Man U's shirt sales record (from 1999) post 2005
Not sure how much further you could increase that
Americans are normally pretty savvy on promoting brands but I'm not holding my breath to be honest I think people vastly overplay the role of merchandising as a financial stream

Thats the thing though, This would be an excellent starting point for the Americans to start LFC's rejuvenated brand push. All we need to do is look at the success that Man U have had with their merchandising in comparison. We simply have to take every advantage we can take from a win tonight, or even from just being in the final.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

If you look at United as a case in point its not necessarily merchandising that has led them to being hugely wealthy its the additional £1 million per home game in gate receipts they take
We often hear stories of how the Far East markets should be exploited etc.. yet the entire Far East market was only worth something like £1.5 million in 2005 for all Premiership teams (genuine merchandising cant compete with the fakes out there)
The USA is a huge potential market but its going to be a very difficult nut to crack imo

Shows clearly that their merchandise generated approx 25% of their total turnover... and they have a decent size stadium. They also compete with the big bhoys (sorry) in terms of shirts sales.
20%+ is a fair whack of your income in my book.

Don't take life too seriously or you'll never get out alive.

Well you are preaching to the choir on the stadium issue.
And it's very telling that Hicks and Gillet always refer to the increased capacity in their interviews. They know full well just how important the increased capacity is.

Our merchandising was about 10% of our turnover in 2005
Bearing in mind the increase in revenue from Sky TV I would expect that to decrease dramatically

They dont have the TV deals we do though so its difficult to draw comparisons

I have noticed a massive improvment in our merchandise availability this season over here in Montreal.
There was never long sleeve shirts during the Reebok erra but now you can buy them all across Canada. You can get name & number in selected sport shops with Gerrard, Fowler & Kuyt as the popular ones.
In addition, we have more training gear such as (trackies, polo shirts, t-shirts, and scarves) than we ever had since I immigrated here in 1992.
I think Adidas has done a sound job in marketing our gear in North America. Hicks & Gillette will enhance that even more.

The USA and South America right? Arent Hicks and Gillett going to market the club in the South America through Hicks television network or something. More fans can only be good news, specially in countries were people know how to play football.
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Merchandising does have a knock on effect however... for instance kids buying a football strip and as a result becoming life long fans, who in turn pass that down the generations.
I'll leave the effect of that up to the guardian to quantify though.
Success breeds success.

I wish it could be that way in Europe
You only need to look at more or less every online shop that sells Liverpool merchandise to see how big we are. Subside sport for example had got in new tracksuits and two days later only the large one was left.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
