    Next Season

    I am desolate.

For all the mistakes I could accuse Rafa of making tonight, I must remember that he is the manager, a brilliant manager, whereas I am a ****ing idiot. We must remember that he took us this far, with a squad which is not really good enough and for that he deserves more respect than I know how to give.

I believe that Rafa will sign some quality players in the summer - I hope a left winger, a right winger, a striker and another centre half. Whatever I think, no matter. I do believe that Rafa is the man, and I believe that our new owners have just tasted the reality of defeat, of our thin squad, and will now know that Rafa is not kidding when he tells them that we need to strengthen. They now realise that he is a brilliant manager working with limited resources.

I am desolate, but also realistic. I'd have settled for this at the start of the season. 2 defeats in Europe's premier competition in 105 years is hard to take, but most football fans would kill for our record.

So let's lift our heads, let's remember our glorious history is only blemished, not tainted, and let's look to the future. Injustice is part and parcel of defeat.

Rafa talks of quality in the Milan team... that is a precursor of the things to come. He will strengthen with players he wants, and this time he will get them. The most important thing for us is that Rafa will be pissed. Bye bye dross, welcome quality.

This is a setback. That is all. Great things await us. Again.

    Good one

2006/7 is over now, all in all it's been a disappointing one, the only competition we challenged in was the champions league.
But there is much to be positive about-the takeover, the new stadium, funds for players and we've got Rafa.

you hit the nail as far as thisseason has been concerned. We could have won the lot but for the long term future the most important thing would still be the takeover. Short term we have taken a little step backward possibly, long term its a huge step forward

I think Rafa got it spot on tonight. The key moment was their 1st goal, a wicked deflacetion. Overall we bossed the game but goals change matches and their first made the 2nd half very tough. Even then SG had a great chance, had that have gone in we would have gone on to win. We need a top notch forward and a top notch LM. With those players we'd have won tonight.

I sort of agree with you HG. He approach was right (not to be gung-ho) but his selections and substitutions were wrong imho.

Zenden and Alonso and Pennant should have been off imho

replaced by Kewell (earlier), Crouch (earlier) and Bellamy.

The goal on HT really killed us. Stupid, stupid foul to give away there at that time.

It was a deflection. Pirlo is Frank Lampard in disguise. END OF!!!!!

We ruled the first half. A flukey, hand-balled goal gave them the lead.

After that - and with a ref who was giving us NOTHING - it was always going to be tough (I mean, blowing the whistle a half a minute/minute and a half early - it's not like Milan are known for fixing matches or anything, although they're won all six times he's refereed them. I'm kidding but the guy was a ****. ).

Rafa got it right tonight. With better players (whom we'll sign in the summer) we'd have been two or more up at half time. Next season.... next season, we'll show you, you ****s.

As Carra said if we moan about that handball we'd be clutching at straws. We needed to be more clinical when we were on top. Luck doesn't come into it.

For me, Rafa's biggest challenge is finding Gerrard's best position. It just seems like he's not entirely sure where to play him; he doesn't trust him in the middle and on the right he's too quick to abdicate responsibility.

He was, for me, the biggest disappointment tonight. His decision-making was woeful and it was like watching a 10 year old kid who wanted to do everything on his own. I'm not slating him lightly, just that I'd have hoped for a more mature performance from him if he is to become the legend that we want him to be.

In the middle alongside Mascherano seems a logical conclusion. But then what of Alonso?
