Well that is very worrying, we need players for the here and now, not players with potential who might turn out to be good in 5 years time.
The likes of Gerrard, Carragher, Agger, Masherano, Alonso, Riise and Finnan, we've got a great backbone of a team there, we just need 2-3 top, top class players to add to that and i think we can genuinely challange for that Premiership title.
I think you're missunderstanding the quote, seems to me that he's talking about signing players in their early twenties, not 30+ players who are good for only a season or two, he's just generalising

I guess someone told them that the fans would like Owen back.

West Ham have allegedly bid (again) for D Bent - hence him not joining Spurs which was a common conception in London last week
WH are flush, and if they dont get Bent, but bid for Bellamy - I see us getting 10 million plus for him
They spent 5 million on Boa Morte and 7.5million on Upson, so they have crazy estimations
          We need better attacking players!

i know the owen threads get boring quickly but i really think if, and its a huge if, we buy him it will be very beneficial to us. Id want him as an extra mind and not instead of the Rafa strikers. but he will score and Stevie would be happy. Thats good enough for me.
Eto'o & tevez would make me very happy indeed

I think we are setting our sights too low.

Owen and Bellamy are both quick but neither has a good enough first touch. In a tight game with top quality defenders they surrender possession with the quality of their control.

To be fair, Owens finishing makes up for this failing -Bellamy's doesn't.
I remember in Owen's last season with us I felt the team played poorly when he was in it -a bit like Crouch and the long ball now - we just kept trying balls for him to run on to.

Tevez and Eto have it all - thats worth £20m.

Im a fan of Bellers and would like him to stay but if we got in World Class players like Eto'o,Villa and Tevez, then he can be sold

........and lets face it he isnt short of admirers

Don't forget he had that court case hanging over his head for a while, he's had to adapt to Rafa's rotation policy and play a different role for the team, if you believe what's previously been said Rafa asked him to stop buzzing around all over the pitch and play on the shoulder of the last defender, not really his game, is it?
I'm a big fan of him, he's different, bubbly, aggressive, passionate, skillful and a flippin class act when given confidence and freedom to play his own game.
I think Rafa's been a bit harsh selling him just after one season with us.
                  YNWA Craig lad.
not good enough. get rid. we now need the best players

During the middle of the season, after his court issues subsided, he began to show some form and was looking good. But Bellamy just isn't clinical enough to play for us, his level is not at a top 4 club, but more of a midtable/uefa cup challenging team. He has always seemed to be better as the big fish in the small pond.

I take your points but is it fair to say he wasnt given a run in the team to gather momentum and find the confidence to reach his top form??

At Newcastle,Celtic and Blackburn he played all the time and showed it with his goalscoring recod

What is his goalscoring record though? I don't remember him ever being prolific except for his season with Blackburn - before that had he ever scored more then 10 goals in a season in the Prem?

For a while it looked like he was first choice with Kuyt, and he had a few good matches e.g. Wigan. But overall I dunno about him, he's talented but I just don't think he's good enough for us.

I mean people can understand why i'm a little pissed off that he will probably leave?
Plays with heart, was always a big lpool fan all his life, explosive pace, bit of a character about him, an exciting player and one that fans take to straight away!! I'm gutted things have come to this.
All the best Craig, whatever happens.

I don't think Rafa want him anyway but who knows? Tevez for big money plus Owen? That would solve out our striker problem and Rafa would have the cash to sign Alves plus another big money winger IMO.
there is no budget mate. he has told it time and time again. it's not 5 or 50 mill it's player specific...

I have him on my home shirt (cos hes Welsh) but we need better. He is quick but we do not play the right way at home to utilise the pace, he is not clever enough to time his runs (always offside ala Cisse), and he isnt a good enough finisher. To win this league we need to start taking more of the umpteen chances we make every game, on weds we again had more chances than the opposition, but like against most of the top teams in a tight game we lost, not clinical enough.
