...if you want my autograph!
Whilst in Athens I appeared on TV twice in 10 minutes - on BBC news and on GMTV.
The BBC was was on very early Wednesday morning when we'd just arrived in Syntagma Square. A tall lad with a beard was interviewed holding a silver foil European Cup and the director asked me, my son Will, a couple of mates and 'Tinkerbitch' Lynn and her fella Dan to stand near him as "a background". I was stood right next to the lad with the cup as it was filmed and I think it was shown later in the morning.
We then went up the steps and saw Phil Neal being interviewed on GMTV (I'm not sure if he said "Phil Neal doesn't do anything for less than a grand" but he talks absolute bollocks that fella). Just afterwards a great big fat bloke called Dave was being interviewed by GMTV's tall reporter Matt Arnold about buying a ticket for 1000 euros the night before. Again we were asked to stand near him as a backdrop.
Whilst waiting for the nod from his Director back in London, Matty (as us celebrity mates call him) asked me if we had tickets. I explained that my two mates and me got a ticket each in the ballot but my son didn't have one. I told him I would give him my ticket and watch it somewhere else. Matt said that was a lovely gesture and would I mind talking to him on GMTV?
We did a link initially with me and the other fat fella Dave each side of the reporter then five minutes later after the ad break was my moment of glory as I was interviewed live on GMTV at around 6.10am UK time! I basically just told him about the three tickets between four of us and that I would give mine to my son Will (who wouldn't talk and was hugely embarrassed) saying "I'm sure any Dad would do the same..."
Afterwards I got loads of texts saying "alright superstar", "are you getting an agent?" and "nice pink face fella!"
Did anybody see it? I was wearing a Liverpool shirt (not unusual in Athens but the first time I'd worn mine since buying it 8 months earlier in Cardiff) and had a big bald red head!!
I've already had TV offers flooding in from "Celebrity Fat Club" and "Half Ton Hospital" but I think I'll wait to see if Daniel Craig turns down the next Bond movie before I decide whether to concentrate on TV or the silver screen...
