Got back from Athens there around four hours ago after having some of the best and worst times of my life!! the journey back was around 25 hours no joke after travelling the best part of Greece!!
Just flights and no hotel booked we set off for the final!!
We got there Tuesday night into Syntagma square to witness about 1000 reds blasting out "Campione" song as the place was just a sea of Liverpool!! At a euro an Amstel, that started flowing and the songs were belted out.
Few hours later though a bit of trouble broke out when this greek lad who was an absolute tosser started throwing beer bottles and full cans into the crowd, my mate got involved and he and this lad ended up getting lifted by local coppers! But he was back with us about half hour later only to find his bag had been whipped from where we sat a stack of them and to be any worse he had everything in it as he was travelling greek islands for 3 months so all his best gear the lot in this rucsack!! All he had left was the gear he had on and sleeping bag (but we got on channel 5 news the next day which was a bit of a bonus)!!
Sleeping rough in Athens was no picnic but there must have been about 500 reds in the square that night so nobody was too fussed!!
The amount of pricks we met who had tickets was unreal this tit from Croydon or somewhere had one because he sold most vodafones in a month at 'Phones 4 U' and got a hospitality ticket to a Uefa dinner the night before as well where he met Aldo and such likes!! He didn't even like football he was telling us and was asking about all the songs!! Another one had a ticket because his brother was a journalist with Daily Star and he blagged in the press box, he was a Fulham fan!! **** sake theres too many real fans who dont get in to these games!! This needs to be sorted!!
We ended up watching the game in a aplace called Stanley Park, a fan park set up the other side of Athens with a big screen and around 2500 others which was good but nowhere compared to being in there!!
The Thursday we all decided that kipping down on park benched getting piss wet through was not an option anymore and we managed to get a hostel sorted!!
We were supposed to arrive back 7am this morning via Corfu!! The nightmare began just before midday yesterday (Friday) as we set off from Athens on a coach to the port of Patra under the instructions of a greek travel agent who said we would catch a ferry to Corfu there no problem. Coach journey took 3 hours and as you know it just when your about to leave a country the weather starts picking up!!
Got into Patra around 3pm local time and headed to the ferry office. To our amazement the girl in there said there was only a daily ferry to Corfu and this was departing at midnight and would take 6 hours. Our flight was at 5.35am and we would not make it.
So panic kicks in and we're all wondering what to do walkin round this greek port which by the way had the fittest women i've ever seen, no joke they were unbelievable.
After pondering whether to get the ferry to Corfu and hope the flight has been delayed or maybe get on a later one a bloke from Thomas Cook phoned and said get to Athens airport that there was a flight to Corfu going at 10pm this was around 6.30 by now and we were 3 hours from Athens. Every little hope was disappearing! We then got back on a bus for athens in hope that seats would be available on any flight back to UK. The airport was full of reds belting songs out until the early hours!!
By the miracle of god we all got on an Olympic Airlines Gatwick flight at 7am greek time this morning for 190euro which is not bad considering. I could have kissed the old bird that got us on it!!
All in all Athens was a great laugh I know the result was ****ing gut wrenching and if we'd have won it would have definitely been the best time of my life but for the majority a good time was had by all!!
I can honestly if any club can match ours by support I want to see them! We were fantastic in terms of support as a club!!
Bring on the summer of transfers and Moscow next May!!!
"Oh Campione, the one and only, we're LIVERPOOL"
