I'm ****ing pissed off with everything at the minute as I expect a lot of us are and saying 'pretty ****' was hyperbole for the sake of illustrating my sole point - that it is an absolute ****ing joke to say we had a successful season. Argument, as in I'm not trying to debate/argue the exact terms you would use to describe our season, just trying to point out that 'succesful' is NOT one of them.Like blood on iron

For a team who got knocked out at the first hurdle in the fa and carling cup, had no chance of wining the league after about the first 7 fixtures, and got to the final of the CL and lost, i;d say it was pretty **** tbh
we wernt to long getting over being knocked out of both domestic cups because rafa has no interest in those.
we knew we were out of the league so we said those cups were distractions we didnt need.
so basically getting beaten by milan has turned our season into a ****ty season?
i just think thats a bit harsh and untrue. You two scousers are always yapping,I'm gonna show you some serious rapping.

it is unacceptable for Liverpool Football Club, we have to keep our standards high, not winning the damn thing for 16 years doesnt mean we have to start accepting 2nd, 3rd, 4th placing as an achievement or relate it to being "successful".
it is unacceptable, unbearable!

lets start winning it again before we start banging on about not winning it is not acceptable."In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. It's **** all to do with getting beat by Milan, we were unacceptably poor in the league, and the league constitutes far more than half of the games we played all season. As a result the league is the first benchmark of how good you were during a season. Bollocks no shows against nothing teams like Blackburn, consistantly rubbish form away from home, out of the title race seriously early on. Yes I'd say that's pretty poor. And you know what I still would even if we'd beat Milan.Originally posted by Rafa Shankly View Postwe wernt to long getting over being knocked out of both domestic cups because rafa has no interest in those.

In 2005 Pako and Rafa both came out and said they were unsatisfied with our season because we'd been so poor in the league. The same principle applies, the fact we lost on Wednesday only means we will talk about this now where otherwise we would just be basking in number 6 and putting this discussion on hold.Last edited by Red_Polo; 27-05-07, 04:04 PM.Like blood on iron

makes no difference wether he has interest in them or not, he's there to try and win all the competitions, we were out of the league by jan so the priorities were the cups two of which we got knocked out of straight away and if you throw your eggs in one basket you need to be winning that competition which we didn't. Now it seems harsh but yes that one result has turned our overall season from being acceptable to being pretty ****Originally posted by Rafa Shankly View Postwe wernt to long getting over being knocked out of both domestic cups because rafa has no interest in those.

I think you all need a reality check. Forget the ****ing past and our 'history'. The facts are that we are a provincial club from a relatively small city that has always punched well above our weight in football terms. That we are still England's most successful club is ****ing amazing when you consider how much less money we have compared to the self-proclaimed "world's biggest club" Man Utd and the plaything of one of the world's richest men, Chelsea.
We have no divine right to win anything. In financial terms third is where we should finish every season unless the yanks put their money where their big mouths are and start competing for the very best players with the Mancs and the Chavs. Until then we will always be competing against Arsenal and a few others for third or fourth place in the PL and will continue to be very hard to beat in cup games. Nothing more. If you believe anything else then you are ****ing deluding yourselves...There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

i think that's missing the point, last season was a success not because we won the fa cup, but because we finished on 82 points, and the cup helped, the season before was successful because rafa won the euro cup with a **** squad but it wasn't acceptable on the league front, but many forgave that as it was rafa's first season in charge. In comparison this season has not been a success simple as that nothing to do with the money structure, more could have been done with what we had available but too many players have not been at their level or gone missing, thus we finished with less points than last season, wasted our chance in the domestic cups, and fell at the last hurdle on weds. I understand what you are saying, but i disagree with your reasoning.Originally posted by rushscored4 View PostI think you all need a reality check. Forget the ****ing past and our 'history'. If you look at our history, we've never been a club which splashed out big money on fancy players. We had the luck of having great managers and in particular the great man Shankly who started it all, and certainly bonded the people of Liverpool to make it the institution it is right now.
We need to compete on a financial level and win the battle here, before we can start to compete on the pitch, year in year out. That's what Manchester United have done and I don't count Chelsea in simply because they've been bankrolled by a sugar daddy.

I thought we used to break transfer records all the time in our golden years.Originally posted by fredo View PostThat's a fantastic post.

I don't know mate as I was relatively young at the time. We did sign Dalglish but was he considered a top class signing ? (Which it obviously was but was he considered a top player already ?)Originally posted by einar View PostI thought we used to break transfer records all the time in our golden years.
In hindsight, I can remember us breaking the bank to sign Stan Collymore, which was a transfer record at the time.

So finishing third with 68 points is a failure but finishing third with 82 points is a success?Originally posted by Morphorino View Posti think that's missing the point, last season was a success not because we won the fa cup, but because we finished on 82 points
Yeah, I see your point...

We were never in the reckoning for the EPL this season, and WONT be next season. We need to make a serious impact on the t/fer market in this window, but even then players will need to adapt and settle into the team.Originally posted by Gillett from the BBCGillett is not convinced the Premiership crown is a realistic target next season.
"I don't know if we are capable of challenging for the title next year," stated the American.
"We want to make progress but it is a multiple-year programme. We want to challenge but we won't do it overnight.
"Manchester United are formidable competitors, Arsenal are one year older, with brilliant young players, and Chelsea are not going to get any worse.
"Next season is up to Rafa Benitez and our chief executive Rick Parry.
"They have a plan and we're working on it. We're right behind it but we've got a big job to do."
I'd be happy making more of a challenge and competing in more than one cup (i.e. the CL) this forthcoming season.
IMO no.19 is far from imminent and i thought those Gillett quotes were extremely candid and on the button, we have no right to even compete with the current team at the moment... people need to understand this!...

I think I heard we broke the transfer record with either Dalglish or Keegan, or maybe both.Originally posted by fredo View PostI don't know mate as I was relatively young at the time.
