IMO no.19 is far from imminent and i thought those Gillett quotes were extremely candid and on the button, we have no right to even compete with the current team at the moment... people need to understand this!
And that's why Rafa commented on taking 'two steps at a time'.

I doubt even with their big mouth, the americans couldn't deliver such promises straight away. Fact is that transfers bears too many risks for that to happen ... It has to make financial sense.

They said we would compete with them, in the transfer market.
They now seem to backing down with that.

They said they would back Rafa. For us to overtake them, we need to either poach all of their targets, or be smarter than them and buy the best in the world in the position we need strengthening.

          Yeah, I see your point...
why the need to try and be a smart arse, i'm trying to have a sensible debate here and there's no need for the rolleyes, it's dickhead comments like that which wind people up and stop them wanting to have any type of intelligent conversation, if you used your brain a bit and thought outside the box you'd see that finishing 9 points behind the leaders one season and then finishing 20 odd points behind the following season is regression whether it was third place or not.

And they said we would compete with Man U in the transfer market.

That for me means, going for Eto´o if he is available. Because we all know that if Alex wanted him, Man U would go all out to get him.

You have a valid point there Morph.

We've certainly fallen further behind in the league but I do believe that had we started the league better, we would have finished a lot closer. And the fact that once CL qualification was obtained, we were crusing in the end, whilst United and Chelsea were still fighting it out for that elusive crown.

Chill winston... it's just a smilie

I think this season was woeful. That CL run saved it from being a disaster, but all in all we've been woeful domestically, no one can deny that surely.

Yes cannot argue that point we still turned in poor form too often away from home, especially against the fellow big 4 clubs, 6 points from 18 i think? all at home. To be fair we would have more points if it wasnt for the champions league as the last few games in the league we hardly put out sides to win. I was most dissapointed with the lack of domestic cup runs as we made bad decisions in both the Arsenal games.

It might not be success, but one reprsented a very good improvement and the other a highly disappointing regression. We'll never win the league if we've got this attitude that cup success excuses league failure.
