    Dirky Boy

So Dirk Kuyt has concluded his first full season with LFC. Looking back to his first game at Anfield when he was literally roared on, we all thought this was the new striker that we desperatley needed. It didn't quite happen but potential that night was shown.

I love Dirks workrate and i want him to stay for another season or 2 at the minimum, but if Tevez was brought in, where would it leave Dirk?

Both are similar type of Strikers IMHO and if we got Tevez i couldn't see us starting with them both up front. More one or the other. Not a bad choice to have to make.

I heard Crouchy say today that his position was safe for next season, so if true, that goes to ask the question that this thread was about. How do you see Dirk's role for the team next season and would he be happy with it?

Would also you be happy if he scored the same amount of goals or do you expect more?

    Questions: Questions: Questions.

I expect more from him and I think he can deliver...but playing alongside someone top class (ie Eto'o), I reckon would make Dirky boy look a different player

Bellers has had a better season IMO

Dirk's workrate is great but we bought him to score goals and it hasnt happened, not much flashes of brilliance, i think he is an intelligent footballer.

Playing him and Tevez i dont see a problem with it.

Tevez to drop off a bit and Dirk could play way way upfront which he seems not to be able to do. He's played more like an extra midfielder in some matches and that left us with no one up front at times therefore, no one for the wingers to look for.

I think a lot of people would beg to differ on that one.

I seriously think Dirk would make a fantastic link up player. Play in the position that we've tried forcing SG into when he's not on the right. With his work rate and knowledge of the game and passing angles, putting him just behind the striker would amount to a real problem for defences as he is enough of a force that he can take it on himself or dish to the actual striker.

            Anyone?

You have something there Loco, i can se him as that type of player but just something holding me back and telling me that he should be an out in out striker and that he can score goals, its like when Nando was with us he had no real quality winger to whip the ball into him and that what i think Kuyt is missing

Looked just the ticket right from his first appearance when he showed energy, enthusiasm, hunger and nous whether attacking or defending from the front.

It's clear he isn't a flair player but he always seems to have an impact on the game somehow. Whether starting or on as a sub he was scoring once every other game and coming up with assists too. Then Rafa starting to play him between the lines more, as a result he spent a lot of time away from the penalty box and the goals dried up.

Some people have been critical but he got himself a very decent goal tally for his first season, and I think we need to appreciate that with a more prosaic striker like Kuyt you only really see the best of him when he has someone more dynamic alongside him. Given that I'd expect him to bag around 20 goals in all competitions next season.

And what are you basing that on?

For me, Bellers should've come in and, if he was really any good, shone straight away. He's been around the Prem for ages and playing in a team with class around him should have brought the best out of him, but it didn't and he was disappointing. Rafa gave him a good run in the side and he was always a willing runner but his finishing was wayward - pretty much what I thought of him before we bought him.

Kuyt hasn't pulled up too many trees but you have to love his work-rate, he's shown flashes of what he can do and remember it was also his first season in a new country and league. He can only get better. His total goals return actually wasn't too bad given that, and the fact he played deeper (ironically for Bellamy to lead the line) for a lot of the season.

I agree that he CAN do it, but I rthink his calling is the workrate mentality. He is not a poacher, he is a runner. He has proven he can run for days and not tire out, and can slot that extra pass thru when needed, or just pick a corner if the situation arises.

Picturing him linking up with one of the strikers we've been linked with makes me think we might actually score goals to go along with those clean sheets this year!!!!!

I think he's done well all things considering. He's had to settle int a new club, a new country and a new way of playing tactically. All that with the fact that his dad is seriously ill playing on his mind.

All in all he's done very well IMHO.

Although I think maybe you've slightly misused it there, given that it can indicate a lack of 'imagination' and/or 'spirit', which I don't think you could ever acuse Dirk of

Who did he play alongside with at Feyenoord? Maybe we should sign him because he scored a shed load then.

                          <only joking mate>

Should he keep his current role of Forward busy-body or be told to stay around up front and do nothing but score goals. I think we have all realised he's never going to be the next Ian Rush but then Who is?

Wouldnt it be fair to say that of Bellers as well? Bellers work rate is immense as well he ran his ass of making runs for others to pass and time after time they never picked out the pass to him.

Anyways there your opinions on him and i respect them
