    29th May.....mixed emotions for me

Today is my eldests 21st birthday ,so celebrations all round. But its also the anniversay of Heysel, an event that is very clearly etched on my mind. I'm not going to give my story now, suffice to say hardly a month goes by when some image of that day comes back to haunt me, as clear as if it happened only yesterday. Anyway RIP to all who lost thier lives or no reason...YNWA.

I was stood no more than 10 yards from the 'fence' (chicken wire) when it all went off in our end on that day. I wanted to cry - but had no tears. I was in shock.

Incidentally - I bunked in that day. Over the wall, with the coppers whacking my legs with truncheons as I climbed over. I had a legit ticket - but the coppers wouldn't let me in - said it was full........... etc etc etc

        RIP 39.

29 May is my birthday. For years it used to bother me about the anniversary but I tend to just get on with it nowadays. It never affected me like Hillsbrough did anyway.

It doesnt really worry me as such, just that the date is always there obviously. I do get the occasional cold sweats, and upset or angry when its mentioned (wrongly) in the media. doesnt affect my life realy, but Its funny that i can remember it in such graphic detail, everything.

When I get around to it I'll write a piece for the site if it's OK, put it in perspective for the younger ones maybe.

I remember our next door neighbour's banner in their garage and one of them being arrested as he was spotted attacking someone on TV. This was done on the basis of his red hair, and we never did find out the full details. Sad night in our history.
