Depends what you mean. If you are saying do I think it is possible that getting the three ideal signings would make us title challengers then yes. However on the balance of probablities and seeing who is available I suspect we will have to settle for a best case scenario of significantly narrowing the gap.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostDoes anyone truly believe we're anywhere near winning the league ?
I do however think that it will be hard for Chelsea and United to substantially improve."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

well, it looks good at the moment, we've currently got the same amount of points as Chelsea, Manutd and Arsenal put together!!!

I personally don't think we are a million miles away - it's been mentioned a thousand times but the spine of our side is excellent, Reina, Carragher, Agger, Mascherano, Alonso, and Gerrard are all excellent players; what we need is the ambition and talent to win tight games and to take the chances that are presented our way - it's sad that at the moment we have no-one that really sticks chances away. Furthermore we need to be cleverer and more clinical in how we create chances.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostDoes anyone truly believe we're anywhere near winning the league ?
I don't think I'm being a blind optimist in thinking we have a chance of being much closer next season; even if the odds are in United's and Chelsea's favour.
One hideously scary thought is that should United win it next term they on 17. shudderJames Philip Milner Fanclub #1

it is the hype and the price that has got Nani and Anderson noticed. If we'd spunked a shedload on the hungarian kids and bigged them up in the media like UTd have done with these kids, we'd be loving it. But we always work on the quiet side, get the signings done and dusted with minimum of fuss and attention.

I think in the league we underperformed as a team last season, even with the same squad we should be doing better. When you then consider that the areas we need to improve in are very clear, that makes it easy for us to make a big difference to the team with just a few signings. Whoever Man Utd sign, are they going to improve dramatically on the players whose places they might take in the team? I honestly doubt it.
But for us, the difference between having Gonzalez/Zenden on the left all season and getting someone who can actually beat a man in there is massive in itself. Pennant has had a good second half to the season but was absolutely appalling in the first half, and even at his present level is far from the ideal RM player. Bringing in quality at RM would not only allow an improvement there but have the knock on effect of allowing us to play SG in his best position more often. Signings in those two positions alone would make a massive difference to us. Add the pace and flair we have lacked up front and our potential for success increases further.
How much has Man Utd's potential for success really increased with these transfers? Who have they signed that will go straight into their first team and improve them dramatically? Nobody. Alright, neither have we yet, but that's why we need to wait until most of the transfer business has been done before we all **** ourselves at the prospect of facing supposedly invincible rivals.Last edited by Red_Polo; 31-05-07, 02:02 PM.Like blood on iron

Heh, I love it when people write posts like this.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostErrrr Lucas, Leto, these 2 Hungarian Lads.
Wakey wakey, you're being sucked into the hype around Nani and Anderson. 2 players I'd never heard of before this summer.

Well then, if YOU'VE never heard of them, I guess all the "hype" is a load of rubbish then.

amen to that, we need a robben/ronaldo type on the left, a striker and we're sorted.Originally posted by Red_Polo View Postgetting someone who can actually beat a man in there is massive
