Football - what a beautiful game? Or not...

              Valdano was right though.
with better players we will play better football, we aren't good enough yet so the only way to get results is nullify the opposition or control the game at a slow pace. we will get there under rafa, don't worry

Well, the CE bit for starters. why is he 'one of the worst' ? compared to how many, in which industries?

Second. 'Rafa is obsessed by grafters' , and is 'defensive' . Dont seem to remember those qualities when Rafas Valencia tore us apart not so very long ago, and i've seen plenty of Liverpool performances in the last three years that were far from defensive.

Now, this Valdano stuff. The myth that the 'the beautiful game' means just ball juggling and step overs etc. It doesnt. It means the whole thing, the pleasure in watching two teams in combat, trying to outwit each other. There's as much skill in a perfectly timed tackle or a perfectly wieghted pass as there is in some fancy wing play. Unless you have the graft you dont get the skill. Watch any top team, look at the work that they put in. If all you want is ball juggling go and watch the Harlem globetrotters and leave us football fans in peace.

                  • Rick Parry's list of calamities is longer than Crouchie's left leg.
                  • Rafa is a defensive manager full stop.

Noone wants to be the globetrotters or do ball juggling. I'd prefer how Shankly described football "it's simple, you play a pass and then move to receive a pass, keep the ball moving and on the ground".

I think you can't have watched us alot if you really believe that, mate. Either that or you believe everything you read in the papers.

We're not an all out attacking team, I'll give you that, but we're far from a defensive team. We're more balanced and have a much slower build up than most Premiership clubs but we're not a defensive team.

I actually think that with the right striker in place and a couple of good quality wingers we'll be right up there.

Defensive teams don't come from 1-0 down to win in the Camp Nou.

On the flip side we have an appalling goals scored record in the league since Rafa has been here.

So, we have a sucinct appraisal of Parrys abilities there. Thanks for that, I understand fully now.

I didnt realise Rafa just did defending, same as GH really. Now didnt you say the same about him?

This Shankly style footy, sounds a teeny weeny like the stuff we try to play now. In fact, Shanklys 'great team of the 60's'- who i had the pleasure to watch on many occasions- were nicknamed The Robots, and the man himself once expressed a vision of his team 'like a machine, rolling over everything in it's path'. oh dear, you'll have to have a go at Shanks now.

Look down, you'll see your feet are full of holes where you've shot yourself.
                          I'll say it again......bull****.

I think we certainly have some in-house problems and some the senior managment at the club were perhaps becoming complacent.

I think the Americans will bring in a degree of urgency, but it will not be an overnight thing.

It will take a while, but everything at the club, from senior management, to merchandising, stock in the club shop, the ticket office, the telephone booking line, etc etc, will all improve.

Americans believe in doing business properly and quickly, and also stress the importance of customer service....

All these issues probably already have plans for progression, so I don't think it's as bad as one may think, but only time will tell

He don't understand reasoning though Kurt. He is just like speedy but you know, denser. I think Rashid would get outwitted by a stuffed iguana or worse, Marky.

yep under Houllier we were defensive, hence why we never came back from a goal down to win games (certainly in the league). We have done that quite a few times under Rafa
