It's a reality check, and a welcome one in my opinion. If you set aside the hype we know next to nothing about gillette and hicks other than they already own underperforming US/Canadian franchises/teams.

The next couple of months will tell us everything we need to know. They need to come good on their promises (waving wads of dollars and euros in press conferences) and sign the world class players we need.

If this doesn't happen this summer, I'm going to get really worried.

It's not criticism from Bascome. All he's doing is relaying facts as they have been reported in the press over in te states. He is saying though that if a similar trend continues in with LFC that we've been warned.

I get the feeling that Hicks and Gillett were never going to lavish millions and millions on the club this summer. They seem to have a long term strategy that's centred around the new stadium. That's not to say we wont spend money this summer though.

Why, they planned to sell us after 7 years, they were only about BIG profits - the leaked report showed that, they were never going to invest big in the team (profit based company and all) and they would never have started a review of the new stadium giving us the possibility of a much better one.
We don't know all the facts about G&T yet and what is planned - it will take a little time for them to get the funds into the club legally so chill and wait. If nothing big has happened by August 1st then yes we have a problem.

They have said that they will back Rafa. Until proven otherwise I back them 100% but if they don't then it wasn't a good takeover deal afterall.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gillett sells Canadiens and Hicks sell Texas or Dallas to finance everything. They are not that rich IMO that they can keep everything and spend big on us.

I think youre right.

I suspect that what will happne this summer is we will spend enough, not loads but enough to keep us up there. All geared toward when we get the new stadium. They give us enough to spend to make sure that once its open we are still at the top so we can rake it in being at the top end with a big new money making ground. Then we will see the big big spending sprees.

They will spend to try and get us the prem, a few very good players will do that - a striker and two wingers.
The big differnece will start to happen once the new ground is built. Or they will build the ground, own it themselves and rent it to us so we pay off their debt.

They will keep them all, that is what will help them get richer, they will not put their own money in to anything. For us they will borrow the money to put in and then get us to pay the debt back for them.

So to sell us after 7 years they wouldve had to have had us win everything so they have their profit. I couldve coped with that and by then, who wouldve been able to afford us anyway? Not like Ken Bates wouldve come in and took over is it?
