Evernham, a former mechanic from Hazlet, N.J., doesn't have the deep pockets of Rick Hendrick, Jack Roush and Roger Penske, and he's in "very serious talks" about a partnership with Montreal Canadiens owner George Gillette that would bring an infusion of millions.
"He seems to be our No. 1 candidate," Evernham said. "We have a good plan, and we're going to find more resources. We're hoping the cavalry is coming here in the not-too-distant future."
