Spearing, Putterill and Hansen promoted to Melwood

Three of Liverpool's Youth Cup winning squad from last season will make the step-up to Melwood during the summer with Jay Spearing, winger Ray Putterill and goalkeeper Martin Hansen making the move from the Academy.
Wirral born Spearing, a utility player who has been used as a holding midfield player for Gary Ablett's reserve team, captained the Academy side to youth cup glory last season.

Left winger Putterill caught the eye with some outstanding performances during the youth cup run while Danish goalkeeper Hansen also impressed.

Fellow youth cup starlets Charlie Barnett, Jimmy Ryan, Michael Burns and goalkeeper Josh Mimms will stay on at the Academy next season as third years.

Meanwhile former Academy goalkeeper David Roberts will be looking for a new club after his release from Melwood. The Academy have also announced that Paul Barratt, Lee Woodward, Ryan Wignall, Jon Pringle and Stephen Behan have been released.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Good to see youth coming thru the ranks.
What about Astrit A, is he allready at Melwood?

No surprises there to be honest, they were probably the three standout players in the youth cup this season

Maybe Hansen will be backup to Reina next season?

i thought Puterill and Spearing looked quite useful in the youth cup, but dunno if they will be good enough to breakthrough into first team, Puterill did look slow and very one footed and a bit "chubby"! I hope they do get some exposure to the first team and are given a fair chance to make an impression.

I would be very surprised if our no. 2 was as inexperienced as Hansen!

With the risk of sounding daft... what does it mean that they are promoted to Melwood?

I can think of the following:
                - Training with the first team
                - Playing in for the ressies instead of the U19s
                - The possibility of playing Carling Cup games and FA Cup games against lower opposition (like Everton )

                Anything else?

Which other youngsters are at Melwood currently?

He's still only 16, he'll have another year at the academy, then probably Melwood because he does have a talent ahead of his years from what I've seen.

Maybe Puterill would be willing to play for Kenny's Reds - he has at least one of the key attributes.

Yeah according to the offal he's 18 on 20th Sept, but I'm sure he was only 16 when we signed him and I've seen a few articles to that effect. Let's hope he is only 16, would make him all the more a precocious talent

he did look good on the few times i've seen him, i'm glad if he is 16 because he did make a few rash errors but you can excuse them at a young age like that

It will be interesting to look at that list in 5 years time and see how many , if any, have made it to the 1st team/squad on a regular basis. I have only seen some of these players on highlights clips so cannot judge them at all, but if only 2 or 3 make it the money will have been well spent.
