Why is there even a bloody debate about this? He got pissed in his own time, when he's allowed to, he didn't cause trouble, he didn't embarrass himself and he didn't drag the name of the club through mud. He dehydrated the next day not when he was drunk. Get a grip some of you!!

He should have been in Estonia if McClaren had any idea about football.[/QUOTE]

doubt it very much if you would find many people to agree with that

More to the point, why the **** is the Times reporting it?

What next? Bellamy trips over his shoelace?

I agree wholeheartedly with AFII. I don't know if Pennant's an alcoholic and, frankly, I don't care. But, one thing I do know, judging from the fact that he's ****ed up good and proper at least a couple of times is that Pennant's a lousy drunk.

Being a lousy drunk myself, I've learned from experience that, if you keep getting drunk, you will eventually do something stupid again. JP doesn't need this at all--he improved tremendously for us over the course of the season and is finally starting to get to the point where people are talking about him more for his football than his drunken exploits.

I really hope he tones down his drinking because, based on his past behavior, if he continues to go out on the piss (and, yes, I know it's offseason and all), he WILL eventually **** up again.

It's one reported time in a year, I don't think there's much more toning down you can do than that

Not being funny here, but how do we even know he had been on the piss the night before? The press will write anything they want. If he had had food poisoning they would have said the same thing. How quick are we to jump on him - he has had pretty much an examplary season?

Didn't SG win libel damages today from a complete lie made up about him?

So many joke responses on this thread.

                  a) Do we know that Pennant fainted due to over excessive drinking?
                  b) Who gives a f*ck if he decided to go on the lash at the end of a tiring season where, as far as we know, his behaviour off the pitch was exemplary.

If it was Carra who fainted on a plane we'd all assume it was because of some mystery stomach bug. But because it's Pennant everyone assumes it's because he's an alcoholic. :whatever:

I just think it's an amusing story, why is everyone taking it so seriously?

                        just thinking the same myself.

I was only trying to work out how he knew the other footballers, i.e when/if they were at the same clubs at one point.

                        Couldn't give a **** about him being drunk etc...as the season's over.

He'd know Vernazza as he was one of Wenger's masterstroke signings

**** knows about Fortune, played for U-21's together maybe.

I agree with you, if he wants to get pissed during the close season then fine. He's not exactly bringing the club into disrepute.
