In my term paper I studied some of the simple model used by the airline industry and the hotel industry.I could not get my hands on the more complicated models which are actually implemented as many companies dont share that information.
I do know that outside of airlines/hotels, it is very widely used in the rental car industry. Apparently some hospitals have started using it and some of the modern sports stadiums too.

Any system where the actual cost of providing service is constant upto a certain capacity,this system can be used.For example in an airline, it cost the same to the airline if they fly 30 people or 32 people. So it makes more sense for them to fly 32 people.

Infact, LFC has a lot of day trip fans who pay a ****load through agencies etc, if they can now get themselves a ticket for a big game at half price direct from the club are they really going to go to the other games as well? This is their one trip per season and if they can get a ticket for Utd then they will pay for 5 games to get them one. Surely you and anyone else can see that?

STs are really really steep right now, and not many can afford the whole thing...
Mini STs/value packs are a great idea but how do you prevent empty seats for smaller games?
How about this?
Make the package the 4 games before the big game and the package includes some form of bar code/swipe card that registers that you have been to x (say 3 )matches before the big game or the big game ticket goes on sale? Would that work? That ensures that the lad uses the card or lets someone else use it. Problem is touts then would use this... hmmmm
How about a family pack then? Several people can register for the same pack and only those guys can use it?? Something like that? Would it work?

We certainly get a lot of executive no-shows, judging by the varying attendances for 'sold out' fixtures; I can only see that phenomenon increasing in a new stadium. For less popular matches, particularly mid-weekers, I would imagine that the Club could 'overbook' the highest-priced seats, especially if they were being sold as packages with more attractive fixtures.

I would have no objection to the top price ranges being sold in block of games. I just firmly believe that the 'cheap seats' should be available on a match-by-match basis. I can't believe that a father who wants to take his two sons to a match will want to cough up for 3 x 5-match deal... And, as a regular attender, I would still prefer not to be forced into buying in that way.

The only game packages I could see working would be corporate ones because atleast whatever firm isnt going to waste it. The club should be able to milk the corporate teat and lower the prices for the rest of us.

Fixture lists dont really allow for games before a big game as its often the way that games are moved or big games are back to back etc.

I did a Maths degree myself, at Liverpool, so I've done a bit of OR; simplex method, simple transportation models, flow problems. Interesting stuff, but there was sadly no opportunity to specialise further in it. I wouldn't have minded doing what you did!

lfc_michael.. OR has started getting a lot of focus here in the US..Loads of univs offering specialized Masters and Phd programs in OR..Loads of other departments focusing on OR applications in their field. I am actually in Civil engineering working exclusively on OR applications...

Wouldn't you guys get paid more if you got into something more contemporary like fuzzy computing, Genetic algorithms etc???? It's a very similar discipline.

This could be what they end up doing. From what I have read I have ended up with the opinion that the boxes will be replaced with bunker suites and executive seats that are out with the rest of us. So instead of the corporate boxes getting a box to watch from there would be several rows of really good seats (most prob wider etc) and at half time they take the elevator down to their box. They will most prob cram a LOT more in of these than they have in the past and end up with some companies/people buying for the season and some buying for 5 or 10 games. I do expect us to have more executive/premier/corporate seats than any other stadium if my idea is right.

In an ideal world we wouldnt need corporates at all but since we have to have them, we should milk the ****ers but not at the expense of the likes of us.

They can have whatever underground, thats no problem, and then have a section of seats on the side, not behind the goals. Make them pay well over the odds and they will make sure that their section of the ground is full. By not having loads of corporate space we can charge a higher price for it.

Yeah I agree that corporate should only be on the sides. Enough of them will mean that on the less glamourous games we will be able to charge a lot less and fill the ground.
